Los Angeles Lakers vs Chicago Bulls NBA Thursday Preview
This matchup between the Lakers and Bulls is a tricky one from a betting perspective. On one hand, the Lakers are in a potential revenge spot after getting blown out by Chicago last week. However, the circumstances aren’t ideal for Los Angeles. The Lakers are on the second night of a back-to-back after a hard-fought 120-119 win in Indiana and will now have to play on the road again, which could lead to some fatigue and an emotional letdown.
Looking at the spread, the Bulls are 4-point underdogs and have a solid 11-6 record against the spread when playing with a rest advantage. Even so, it's hard to confidently back either side here, as both teams have valid cases and concerning spots. The moneyline tells a similar story. The Lakers are listed at -155, which isn’t particularly appealing, and while Chicago could offer some value, there’s not enough conviction to make them a clear pick either.
When it comes to the total, the line is set high at 240 points. Recent trends lean toward the over — the Lakers have hit the over in three straight games and eight of their last ten, while the Bulls are over in four straight and five of their last six. However, there's a key factor to consider: the Lakers have gone under the total in three of their last five games when playing with no rest, which could point to a lower-scoring contest.
Overall, this is a difficult game to call. The context slightly favors Chicago and possibly the under, but there’s no strong betting recommendation in any of the three main markets in this spot. My best bet for tonight is Josh Giddey Over 17.5 Rebounds + Assists. We just saw Giddey go for 17 assists and 10 rebounds against the Lakers last week, and while I don't think he'll do that again necessarily, there's a pathway to the over.
As usual, he's on playmaking duty offensively, and guards with quality court vision who could be effective in transition could hurt this Laker squad, moreover on the road second of a back-to-back. Tyrese Haliburton had 18 assists last night, for example.
Giddey has gone over 17.5 RA in eight of 12 coming out of the break, a run that started with seven of eight before some recent near misses. But we've seen him exploit this match-up before with his playmaking, as well as his activity on the glass.
Giddey is a candidate to get a triple-double on any night due to his rebounding, which is also a key spot here given that the Lakers love utilizing their small-ball look.
