Los Angeles Lakers vs Utah Jazz NBA Preview

The Lakers have a rematch against the Utah Jazz tonight, and while all eyes are once again on Luka Doncic, I’m targeting Austin Reaves.

Reaves has been incredible for this Lakers team and is averaging 19.2 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 6.1 assists this season (29.7 PRA).

While the thought may be that Luka would cut into Reaves’ Usage, I’m not 100% convinced of this, especially in a game where the Lakers will be without Gabe Vincent and Dorian Finney-Smith, when Luka is clearly expected to remain on some sort of minutes limit.

Another key detail here is that when the Lakers were up big last game, Luka did not see the floor in the 4Q while Reaves continued with most of his rotation.

Without Vincent and DFS, I think Reaves could be used as a spot up shooter as well, and this will be something to monitor tonight.

Either way, this Lakers team continues to be undersized and Reaves is a strong positional rebounder who can kickstart the fast break.

I like Reaves to have an all-around solid contribution.

Best Bet: Austin Reaves Over 29.5 Points + Rebounds + Assists

No Dorian Finney-Smith tonight, which means more minutes should be secured for Rui Hachimura. He's tallied 32+ minutes in each of the non-blowout games DFS missed.

Rui has been leading the Lakers in catch-and-shoot field goal attempts recently, averaging 6.6 attempts over their last five games.

Gabe Vincent and DFS are the other two in the top-3 for catch-and-shoot FGA for the Lakers, and they are both out tonight.

With Luka and LeBron both drawing a ton of attention and help, we should see the Lakers’ spot up shooters get some open looks. Rui had 8 C&S FGA in Luka’s debut.

Tonight, he draws an excellent matchup against the Jazz, who surrender the 2nd-most C&S FGM allowed over their last 15 games. They also allow the most above the break 3s over this span as well.

Pick: Rui Hachimura Over 1.5 Three Pointers Made (-135)
