Mavericks vs. Cavaliers Preview
The Mavericks ended January with a 117-102 loss to the Pistons. They are currently eighth in the West at 26-23 and had been treading water until Luka Doncic returned. However, they will now be waiting for the return of Anthony Davis after the Mavericks traded Doncic for Davis in a late-night blockbuster deal last night.
BREAKING: The Dallas Mavericks are trading Luka Doncic, Maxi Kleber and Markieff Morris to the Los Angeles Lakers for Anthony Davis, Max Christie and a 2029 first-round pick, sources tell ESPN. Three-team deal that includes Utah.

While Kyrie Irving waits to form a new duo with Davis, he will be returning to Cleveland where he was the No. 1 overall pick in 2011 and helped the Cavaliers win a championship in 2016. Irving is coming off a 28-point performance against the Pistons. However, he is listed as questionable for today's game.
The Cavaliers have had a few days off after consecutive 20-point wins on a back-to-back. The team was rewarded for their fantastic first half with Darius Garland and Evan Mobley joined Donovan Mitchell on the Eastern Conference All-Star team. They proved why on Thursday as Mitchell and Garland combined for 50 points and 13 assists while Mobley had 16 points and 10 rebounds.
The Cavaliers lead the league in offensive rating and rank second in points per game. They are averaging 122.8 points over their last 10 games. Over that span, Garland is averaging 24.8 points and 7.1 assists.
Mavericks vs. Cavaliers Prediction
Cleveland has won six of the last seven meetings against Dallas, including 134-122 in Dallas. The Cavaliers are once again double-digit home favorites. However, I have more confidence in their team total today.
The Cavaliers have scored 125 points in four of their last five games and cleared this number in the last meeting. Dallas is 21st in defensive rating over their last 10 games and just surrendered 136 points the Pelicans on Wednesday. It also may be reeling a bit from the shocking trade.
I expect Garland to help the Cavaliers get to that total by scoring and facilitating. He has had 20 points and six assists in nine of his last 10 games.
Should the Cavaliers miss, Jarrett Allen will be a factor on the offensive glass and at both ends of the floor. Allen has had 10 rebounds in six of his last seven games. Dallas is 21st in the NBA, allowing 15.5 rebounds per game to centers.
If Irving is available today, he will need a big scoring game to help the Mavericks hang close. He is averaging 25.4 points in 11 career games against the Cavaliers, including 30 in his last three games against them. He has scored 25 points in five of his last eight games.
Best Bet: Cavaliers Team Total Over 124.5 (-120)
