No team has ever come back from an 0-3 deficit in the NBA Playoffs, but after Game 4, the Mavericks at least “have a shot” to pull off the miracle in the NBA Finals.

According to Joe Dellera, the Mavericks' fairy-tale run ends tonight in Game 5, and he’s backing the Celtics to cover the full-game spread:

“Dallas won the 3-point battle in Game 4 by making 15 3s compared to Boston's 14; however, the Mavericks took four fewer 3s than the Celtics. The biggest swing for Dallas was scoring an incredible 60 points in the paint and out-rebounding Boston by 21, with a 52-31 advantage on the glass. This is a bit skewed though because Boston simply could not buy a bucket as it shot just 36.3% from the field.”

“Historically, the trends here point toward the Celtics as they return home for a closeout Game 5. Per Action Labs, home favorites that lost the prior game by double digits are 149-112-5 ATS (57.1%) with an average margin of 2.47 points.”

“The Celtics haven't lost consecutive games during this postseason and haven't lost consecutive games since April 9 and 11 after they had already locked up the overall No. 1 seed for the NBA Playoffs.”

The enigma that is Kyrie Irving can be frustrating for bettors with the variance in his scoring. Some games, he looks like the best player in the world and in others, he looks like just another guy.

For Game 5, Alex Hinton thinks we need to bank on Irving having little impact on the scoreboard and go under his points prop:

“Irving has now gone under this line in three of the four games in this series. Now things shift back to Boston, where Irving averaged 14 points in the first two games."

“Irving has scored 24 points in just one of his last six games in Boston. He's also gone under this line in eight of his last 10 road games while averaging 19.2 points per outing in that span.”

Depending on your point of view, role players for the Mavericks have been the biggest detriment to their success.

Outside of Luka Doncic and Irving, no other player on Dallas is averaging double-digit points, except one: P.J. Washington.

Bryan Fonseca says we should bank on Washington to get back on track in Game 5:

“P.J. Washington cleared this in Games 1-3. Maybe he should've in Game 4, but he was limited to 14 minutes, which is an outlier because of how badly they whooped on Boston."

“Washington has no other game with less than 25 minutes in the playoffs. He has also gone over 11.5 points in 11-of-21 of them.”

“He's still — even with six points in Game 4 — averaging 12.5 points per game on 43/35/75 shooting this series.”
