Mavericks vs. Jazz Preview
The Mavericks and Jazz face off on Thursday night — the only game on the day's NBA slate before most of the league plays Friday night in the NBA Cup.
The Mavericks have listed PJ Washington (knee) as Doubtful and Luka Doncic (knee) as Probable. The Jazz have already ruled out Walker Kessler (hip).
Utah is a nine-point underdog and rightly so. The Jazz have the worst Adjusted Net Rating (-7.5) in the league with the 28th-ranked offense and 30th-ranked defense, per Dunks and Threes. They play at the sixth-fastest Pace, which only exposes their weaknesses more often during a game.
The Mavericks have the fifth-best Adjusted Net Rating (+4.0) and are top 10 in both offense and defense, per Dunks and Threes. They are coming off a tough loss against the Golden State Warriors and will be looking to bounce back on Thursday night.
Without Kessler, I expect John Collins to continue seeing extended run for the Jazz. Without Kessler, Collins has averaged 17.6 points and 9.8 rebounds per game over 12 games across the past two seasons. His prop lines are right around there at 17.5 points and 10.5 rebounds, but he has had a solid scoring floor and has scored 14 points in 11 of 12 games.
Without Kessler, some rebounding opportunities should open up for the Mavericks. I'd target Luka Doncic, who has recorded nine rebounds in four of five games against the Jazz over the past two seasons and is nearly averaging a triple double with 27.4 points, 9.2 rebounds and 10.8 assists per game this season.
His Rebounds + Assists line is set at 17.5, a number he has struggled to hit consistently this season, but that he torched last year and has now hit in three of his past five games.
Mavericks vs. Jazz Prediction
This game sets up to be fast paced and I think there will be plenty of opportunities for players on both teams to rack up counting stats. I expect Luka Doncic to find successes as a rebounder against a slightly undersized Jazz team, but also be able to set up his own big men in both Daniel Gafford and Dereck Lively. I'll grab Doncic to exceed 17.5 RA.
For a SGP, I'll take Doncic 8+ Rebounds, 8+ Assists and John Collins 15+ Points (+202 at FanDuel).
Best Bet: Luka Doncic o17.5 RA
Same Game Parlay: Luka Doncic 8+ Rebounds, Doncic 8+ Assists, John Collins 15+ Points (+202)
