Mavericks vs. Jazz
By Matt Moore
Dallas is 14-4 ATS on the road against teams under .500 since the start of last season. That's a great spot to begin with. Dallas beats up on bad teams. They've had a brutal stretch lately, losing nail-biter after nail-biter to elite West teams. The Jazz… are not that.
I legitimately can't figure a way where this spread is single-digits. Utah is usually a stout homecourt team and had one of the best ATS figures last season. But that's evaporated. They are 1-4 ATS this season at home, failing to cover by over 12 points per game.
Utah is not risking it. They are going to get a top-four lottery spot and land one of VJ Edgecomb, Ace Bailey, Dylan Harper, or of course, Cooper Flagg.
The Mavericks are motivated to get right after a frustrating week. I make this line Mavericks -12 with average homecourt, let alone the negative homecourt Utah has so far.
Pick: Mavericks -9.5 (-110)

The Mavericks get a significant Pace Up Spot against the Jazz on Thursday night, and without Walker Kessler playing for Utah, I expect the paint to be open for some strong pick and roll opportunities for the Mavericks.
Dereck Lively is averaging 9.7 points and 8.1 rebounds per game and that’s skewed a bit from two down games against the Rockets and the Jazz (with Kessler) where he struggled to rebound the basketball.
Kessler averages the third-most Rebound Chances per game (20.6), and without him on the floor, there will be better chances for Lively to clean the glass, but also for him to finish at the rim.
He has gone over this line in 4/7 games this season, and I expect him to do so again in what is now a plus matchup without Kessler.
Pick: Dereck Lively Over 16.5 Points + Rebounds (-120)
Mavericks vs. Jazz

The Jazz rank dead last in steals (and blocks) allowed.
Doncic averages 1.5 steals per game and has given pretty good effort on the defensive end this year. He's also always looking for swipes to get out in transition vs. teams like Utah.
Pick: Luka Doncic Over 1.5 Steals (-130)

Lively returned this week from a shoulder injury, and was still getting himself re-settled, but he breezed past this number for 20 points and rebounds against Golden State.
The key here is Utah's pick and roll defense. Utah is actually surprisingly good at defending ball-handlers in pick and roll but they give up the 5th-most points to the roll man out of pick and roll. You know what that means: Lob City.
Plus, Utah gives up the most points in transition of any team in the league and Lively's a great rim-runner.
Lively should crush against a weak defensive frontcourt tonight.
