Pacers vs. Magic

Bennedict Mathurin Over 18.5 Points (-110)

By Joe Dellera

The Pacers have an injury report that’s a mile long but one of the biggest beneficiaries is going to be Bennedict Mathurin.

Mathurin started off the season playing inconsistent minutes, but Rick Carlisle has been forced to play him 30+ minutes for the last six games. During those games, he has averaged 24.2 points with monster games against the Knicks (38) and the Celtics (30). Without Andrew Nembhard, he sees his usage climb.

Tonight, Mathurin gets a tough matchup against the Orlando Magic. Jalen Suggs tweaked his ankle yesterday, though, so we'll have to see if that impacts him at all today. Mathurin just scored 20 against the Magic about a week ago in a game that saw him attempt just seven field goals but 14 free throws. Also, Nembhard played 31 minutes in that game but is out tonight.

Mathurin did score just five points in 13 minutes against Orlando back in October, but the Pacers rotation looked totally different then.

I like Mathurin to exceed 18.5 points tonight.

Pick: Bennedict Mathurin Over 18.5 Points (-110)

With each win, the Cavaliers take another step to dispel the notion that their 12-0 start is simply a fluke. They have the second-highest Net Rating at +11.4 while ranking first offensively with an efficiency rating (121.3) that’s even higher than the reigning-champion Celtics.

Cleveland will have a one-day rest advantage when they visit a 2-8 76ers team on the second leg of a back-to-back. While the 76ers have yet to submit their official injury report, center Joel Embiid said before the season that he doesn’t see himself playing back-to-back games.

There’s already plenty of drama surrounding the 76ers, ranging from Embiid’s injury woes to his suspension for pushing a reporter or the injury to Tyrese Maxey.

Philadelphia is already high atop my fade list, this is an even better spot, given the quick turnaround. As a result, I expect the 76ers to start sluggishly in the first half, when they’re just 2-8 against the spread (ATS) and 0-5 at home.

With Cleveland 7-4-1 ATS in the first half, I recommend backing the visitors as a 4.5-point favorite at BetMGM.

Pick: Cavaliers 1H -4.5 (-115)

Thunder vs. Pelicans

Jalen Williams Over 26.5 Points + Rebounds (-120)

The Thunder will be without a true center for the foreseeable future with Chet Holmgren’s hip injury. One of the players seeing time at the "5" is Jalen Williams.

Williams has been awesome this season averaging 19.9 points, 6.4 rebounds and five assists per game. This line is essentially in line with those averages which does not capture the Holmgren injury and the change in Oklahoma City’s spacing since it essentially played a small ball lineup for 48 minutes.

Last game without Holmgren, Williams scored 28 points and pulled down eight rebounds against a Clippers team that has one of the best rebounding bigs in the league in Ivica Zubac. Tonight, the Thunder face off against the Pelicans, who have rookie Yves Missi and Daniel Theis on the interior. That has New Orleans ranking seventh-worst in the NBA in rebound percentage while it also gets absolutely torched from midrange and at the rim. Well, those are the two primary areas Williams scores from.

Although the Pelicans got back Trey Murphy, who is an elite defender, I’d expect him to stay on a minutes limit. If he shadows anyone, it'll be Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.

This is a line Williams has exceeded in six of 11 games this season, but there's a ton of additional upside given the injuries on both sides of this matchup.

Pick: Jalen Williams Over 26.5 Points + Rebounds (-120)

Last night, Portland beat Minnesota 122-108. Robert Williams was great, as was Toumani Camara. Scoot Henderson was efficient, Jerami Grant filled it up, and so did Shaedon Sharpe and Deni Advija. Also, Dalano Banton had one of his good nights.

Is every element of that repeatable? Probably not.

This should be the Wolves bounce back spot, at least early. You often just want to back the better team if they lose in Game 1 of these doubleheaders.

Naz Reid was awesome, but the Wolves had off nights from Anthony Edwards, Rudy Gobert and Julius Randle. Plus, they just beat Portland by 25 last week before losing to the Heat to begin this two games skid. I'd lean Minnesota in a game that isn't as much of an anomaly as last night.

Pick: Timberwolves 1H -5.5 (-115)

Grizzlies vs. Lakers

LeBron James Over 8.5 Assists (-110)

By Joe Dellera

LeBron James and the Lakers take on the Grizzlies again tonight, and I’m targeting his assists.

James has averaged 8.9 assists per game, but he has seen a discernible spike over the last five games with four games of double-digit assists. He had one game with just six assists against these Grizzlies, but was without Anthony Davis, who's probable (foot/eye) for tonight.

Additionally, even in that six-assist game, James still had 19 potential assists, his teammates just did not convert. During this five-game stretch he's averaging 11.2 assists on 19.4 potential assists. He's facilitating from the high post more, which is changing the pressure he is placing on not only himself, but the defense as well as they have to deal with both him and Davis.

I think this is a good matchup for James and expect him to help the Lakers avenge their loss from a last week.

Pick: LeBron James Over 8.5 Assists (-110)

Anthony Davis Over 27.5 Points (-110)
BetMGM Logo

By Bryan Fonseca

I took Anthony Davis over 27.5 points on BetMGM, and he has already moved to 28.5 at some books. The Brow has gone over 27.5 points in seven of nine games this season and has consistently looked like one of the best players in the NBA.

Davis is probable and on two days of rest. On two days of rest this season, Davis has scored 35 and 37. Additionally, he's gone over 27.5 points in three of four against Jaren Jackson Jr. in the regular season.

Lastly, the only two games Davis has gone under so far this season have been blowouts — a 20-point win over Toronto and a 24-point loss to the Cavs. Every other game Davis has played has been decided by 12 or fewer points, and despite Memphis being short-handed, sharps and our PRO systems like them to cover +6.5, implying this game could be closer than some expect, giving Davis more of a runway to the over.

Pick: Anthony Davis Over 27.5 Points (-110)
