Spurs vs. Hornets
The Charlotte Hornets just traded away their starting center, Mark Williams, for a couple of wings and draft capital.
Needless to say, their frontcourt — which was already allowing opposing centers to score the third-most points per game this season — took a massive hit.
Now, Charlotte will take on Victor Wembanyama and the Spurs. Yikes.
Last season, Wembanyama had a brief, but successful, outing against the Hornets, pouring in 26 points in just 20 minutes.
Now that the Spurs have another talented guard (De'Aaron Fox) who can throw lobs and get Wembanyama the ball in his spots, his offensive output should soar.
Pick: Victor Wembanyama Over 25.5 Points (-105)
Spurs vs. Hornets
By Joe Dellera
De’Aaron Fox made his debut for the San Antonio Spurs last game and was wildly successful in a thrilling team win. Now, you get a matchup against the shell of the Charlotte Hornets after they traded numerous players on their roster ahead of the deadline.
One of the things I was looking for with Fox was whether or not his assists would actually see a spike now that he had a true lob threat and finisher in Victor Wembanyama. Well, in his debut, he racked up 13 assists on 19 potentials, far exceeding his season averages in both of those stats. Part of that is due to the matchup against Atlanta; however, the spike was so significant we need to consider it moving forward. He distributed the ball throughout the team and had four assists alone to Wembanyama.
This is a spot where he should be able to score at will while also distributing for his teammates. I’ll grab over 29.5 PA.
Pick: De’Aaron Fox Over 29.5 Points + Assists (-125)
Heat vs. Nets
I feared this for most of the season, but lately, Bam Adebayo has turned it around.
And if you've been following the Jimmy Butler situation — Bam is one of the guys who should most benefit from Butler's departure to Golden State.
Adebayo is over 14.5 RA in eight of the last 12, and one of those games includes a battle against the Nets two weeks ago where Bam went for 17-16-4. Not sure the rebounding will be that pronounced, but then again, he pulled down 20 against Nic Claxton last January, too.
Pick: Bam Adebayo Over 14.5 Rebounds + Assists (-135)
76ers vs. Pistons
The 76ers may be at full strength tonight with the recent return of former MVP Joel Embiid, who looked great earlier in the week, dropping a triple-double in the Sixers win over the Dallas Mavericks.
Paul George is also expected to suit up tonight. The line opened at -2.5 but has jumped 1.5 points over the last 24 hours in favor of the road 76ers.
Philly is playing their best basketball of the season right now and will find a way to win a close game tonight.
Pick: 76ers ML (-175)
Bucks vs. Hawks
By Nick Parsons
I'm expecting Milwaukee to keep its foot on the gas from start to finish in this one and not only win but do so in blowout fashion.
The Bucks are 27-22 after snapping a four-game slide with a 112-102 win at Charlotte. Milwaukee has lost five straight ATS now, but note that the Bucks are 7-2 ATS in their last nine after five or more ATS losses in a row.
Atlanta is 23-28 after a 126-125 home loss to San Antonio on Wednesday night. But with a three-game road trip starting on Saturday night in the nation's capital, I say the home side not only has a letdown here but also gets caught "looking ahead."
Lay the points with Milwaukee here.
Pick: Bucks -4.5 (-110)
Raptors vs. Thunder
Even though the Raptors won't have Jakob Poeltl and RJ Barrett while the Thunder gets back Chet Holmgren, I find this point spread too inflated given the situation and Toronto's skill level.
The Raptors have come on to win eight of their last 12 games. They have covered 58 percent of their games this season.
It's easy to see why the oddsmakers are strong on Oklahoma City. The Thunder are 3-0 on their homestand with blowout victories against the Kings, Bucks and Suns. Holmgren returns for the first time since suffering a pelvic fracture nearly three months ago.
Toronto just suffered its worst loss of the season, 138-107, to the Grizzlies two days ago.
The Raptors should have motivation after that embarrassing defeat. Holmgren figures to be rusty, too, after being out for so long.
However, the biggest factor in Toronto's favor is the situation. The Thunder they have a much bigger game tomorrow night on the road against the Grizzlies. Memphis has the second-best record in the West behind Oklahoma City.
So, the backdoor could swing wide open if the Raptors need it during the final few minutes when the Thunder would surely be resting starters if they hold a big lead.
Pick: Raptors +19.5 (-106)
Jazz vs. Suns
By Nick Parsons
These teams have been involved in several high-scoring games of late, but everything finally points to a defensive battle in this spot.
Phoenix is now 25-25 after three straight losses, most recently a humbling 140-109 setback at Oklahoma City.
The Suns have seen the total go over in five straight, but note that Phoenix has seen the total dip below the posted number in eight of its past 11 after playing to five or more straight overs in a row.
Utah is now 12-37 after an upset 131-128 home win over Golden State. The Jazz have seen the total go under in five of their past six after three or more ATS victories in a row.
Phoenix won 114-106 at home in mid-January over Utah, and all signs point to a similar lower-scoring outcome here.
This number is high, and the play is the under.
