Jazz vs. Lakers
All indicators are that Luka Doncic will make his Lakers debut tonight, even if he begins the game on the bench.
Lots going on lately for the Lake Show, with the Doncic/Anthony Davis deal, the rescinded trade for Charlotte's Mark Williams, and LeBron James missing Saturday's game vs. the Pacers.
All of these distractions, and the Lakers are continuing to roll, with Austin Reaves scoring 45 in the win over Indiana, as LA is scoring at a brisk 126 points per game clip across this win streak now at five games.
Meanwhile, defense no strength of the Jazz. They've seen the total go Over in three straight heading into tonight, while allowing a whopping 131 ppg. Play Jazz-Lakers "Over"
Pick: Over 234.5 (-110)
Timberwolves vs. Cavaliers
Donovan Mitchell has gone over 4.5 assists in eight straight games, and has even gone over 5.5 in seven of those.
So then what's the catch?
Because the Timberwolves allow the fifth-fewest assists per game and per 100 possessions, this could be a potential streak buster.
But I'll bet on that happening on a later date and will ride with Mitchell to do it once more tonight.
Pick: Donovan Mitchell Over 4.5 Assists (-125)
Hawks vs. Magic
Orlando comes into this matchup with a record of 26-28. That record has been underwhelming for this young talented group.
Orlando posted a 47-35 record a season ago which was the fifth best in the East.
The Magic tend to improve in the second half of the season, and tonight is a great get right spot for a team that has lost seven of their last 10 games.
Atlanta has struggled on the road this season with a 13-15 record. Orlando is 15-10 at home ATS this season.
Pick: Magic -5.5 (-110)
Hornets vs. Nets
Total trends are rather illuminating both ways for a matchup only handicappers could love at Barclays Center.
For the Hornets, the iffy status of top scorer LaMelo Ball (28 ppg, missed Sunday's loss to the Pistons with a sore ankle) is a bit unsettling.
But even with Ball being active most of the past two weeks, Charlotte is only scoring at a tepid 102 points per game pace across its last seven games, which is part of a much-longer "under" narrative that stands 17-7 since last December.
Meanwhile, the Nets have now seen the Under cash at a 10-2 clip in their last 12 games after another low-scoring affair on Saturday vs. the Heat, which also happened to be Brooklyn's fourth win in five games.
A slower pace is working just fine for Jordi Fernandez. Play Hornets-Nets "Under"
Pick: Under 211.5 (-110)
Kings vs. Mavericks
By Joe Dellera
The Mavericks are getting the full Anthony Davis experience with him slotted to miss the next few weeks after dominating to start his Mavericks’ debut.
Max Christie was the other player Dallas brought back in the Luka trade, and he’s been excellent of late.
Christie has averaged 17.7 points and 5.7 rebounds in the three games he’s played for the Mavericks.
He has played 30+ minutes in each of those spots, and should continue to see extended run.
This matchup against the Kings is a little tougher given their size. However, he’s seen such a high floor and been given a green light to shoot. I’m going to back Christie in his new and expanded role for the Mavericks.
Pick: Max Christie Over 16.5 Points + Rebounds (-125)
Timberwolves vs. Cavaliers
On Monday night, the Timberwolves will face the Cavaliers, the best team in the Eastern Conference.
Cleveland is a tough matchup for any opposing power forward or center due to its size, length, athleticism, and defensive versatility in the frontcourt. Mobley and Allen are a formidable duo to put points up against.
Still, I like for Naz Reid to pour in 19 or more points on Monday.
Reid has been fantastic in his past four games as a starter this season, averaging 22.5 points on roughly 50% shooting from the floor and 45% from behind the arc.
What’s appealing about this prop is the combination of Reid’s efficiency in extended minutes and his shooting volume without Randle. In that stretch, he has averaged just shy of 18 field goal attempts per game.
And while going up against the length of Mobley is always daunting, it’s not like the Cavs’ frontcourt has been shutting down opposing power forwards, as they allow them to score the 16th-most points per game in the NBA this season.
Pick: Naz Reid Over 18.5 Points (-120)
Warriors vs. Bucks
We know Giannis Antetokounmpo is out with a calf injury. There's a chance Stephen Curry is held out too, because of left quad soreness.
But even if Curry plays, I like this total to go Under.
The Warriors are in transition with Jimmy Butler in and Andrew Wiggins and Kyle Anderson out. Golden State has a top-10 defense, and the Bucks probably aren't going to push a fast pace after an up-and-down 135-127 victory against the 76ers on Sunday.
The last time the Bucks played without rest was a week ago. They managed only 96 points against the Thunder, although they held out their top players.
Golden State's strength is its 3-point shooting. The Bucks rank fifth in defensive field goal percentage and 10th in 3-point defense.
Pick: Under 230.5 (-110)
Celtics vs. Heat
By Ray Monohan
The Heat traded Jimmy Butler after dealing with all the distracting drama he caused and things are in a tailspin for them.
They have covered the spread only once in their last five games, and are 2-5 ATS at home in their last 7.
Their home losses in that span have been all blowouts and they already fell to Boston here in Miami by 19 earlier this season.
The Celtics are the better team on both ends of the floor and it's not really even close.
They have been very profitable when laying 6 points or less this season, and that trend should continue here on Monday. Lay the points with Boston.
