Celtics vs. Raptors
By Ray Monohan
The Celtics have value on Tuesday in Toronto. Boston is heating up and they're looking to continue being a force in the NBA.
They've won 5 straight games by 13 points or more and they're blowing everyone out that gets in their way.
Toronto is 2-10 ATS in their last 12 and they're starting to fade quickly. That doesn't bode well against Boston, who is playing with a ton of confidence right now.
This is a complete mismatch of a spot and the Celtics are going to dictate everything here. Back Boston.
Pick: Boston Celtics -11
Cavaliers vs. Magic
Fool's errand, perhaps, to pick against the Cavs?
It's seven SU wins on the spin, and unbeaten vs. the line the last five, for Cleveland, whose offense has really percolated the past couple of games vs. the Knicks and Grizzlies, scoring at a 136 pg pace.
Donovan Mitchell scored 30 pg across those romps, and the Cavs won and covered the first meeting vs. Orlando back on December 6 when hitting 51% from the floor, and paced by 25 points from Darius Garland.
Keep in mind, however, that holding serve at home has been a recent trademark of this series after the home team won every game in last spring's first-round playoff matchup that went seven games, and the Magic seem on the upswing again with wins in three of four and covers in each of those and Franz Wagner and Paolo Banchero are now used to playing alongside one another again after earlier injuries.
Play Magic.
Pick: Orlando Magic +7.5
Spurs vs. Pelicans
By Joe Dellera
The Pelicans face off against the Spurs on Tuesday night in a matchup between two teams that have struggled to defend on the interior this season. The Spurs are without Victor Wembanyama here which obviously impacts their defense.
Since the All-Star Break (small sample size alert), they are allowing an absurd 42.3% of their opponents’ shots to be taken at the rim. That’s a dramatic swing from their 33.5% frequency on the season. It’s also 11% higher than the league average.
I expect Zion to be an absolute wrecking ball on the interior. He just had 22 points and 9 rebounds against them but he was a bit inefficient from the field shooting just 47% compared to his season average of 60.7%.
It’s the same matchup and Zion should be able to improve on that efficiency to clear this line against a Spurs team with Bismack Biyombo as the primary paint presence moving forward.
Pick: Zion Williamson Over 31.5 Points + Rebounds
Suns vs. Grizzlies
We have another high total in a Suns game, up to 246.5 at BetMGM after opening at 245.
While I’m fully aware this total probably has more to do with their opponent being Memphis, I’m not sure Phoenix will come along for the ride and make it a fast-paced game.
The Suns are one of the more methodical teams in the league, considering they rank 21st in tempo with 98.85 possessions per game.
Their home (98.68) and away (99.0) splits are almost identical, which suggests they’re more likely to dictate the pace of the game to their liking.
Over the last two seasons, the total is 7-2 to the under in Suns’ games when an opening total of 240 or more points was bet higher.
Since my model projects a total closer to 233.8 points, I’m happy to take a contrarian approach and fade this market move.
