Three of this year's Christmas Day games feature matchups of teams in the top 10 NBA title odds favorites: Bucks vs. Celtics (No. 2 vs. No. 1), Grizzles vs. Warriors (No. 6 vs. No. 7) and Suns vs. Nuggets (No. 4 vs. No. 8).

Mavericks vs. Lakers, meanwhile, appeared to be a potential battle of Western Conference contenders when the schedule came out, but reality has gone a slightly different direction.

The Mavericks were +2100 just a couple of weeks ago (prior to the first marquee Saturday NBA game between the Celtics and Warriors, to be specific) but have fallen all the way to +4200 in the span of 15 days. Dallas has gone 4-4 over that time but needed a 50-point performance from Luka against the Rockets on Friday to claim a 112-106 win.

As for the Lakers? They were +1800 to win the title entering training camp, then famously lost five in a row to start the season (and 10 of their first 12). They had showed some promise with Anthony Davis' recent run of strong games, only for Davis to be ruled out indefinitely with a stress injury in his right foot. Having gone 3-7 in their past 10 games, the Lakers' championship odds are at +7000, a fair implied probability of winning it all of just over 1%.

That leaves Christmas Day's opening matchup between the Philadelphia 76ers and New York Knicks in Madison Square Garden. At +2000, the 76ers are on the outside looking in when it comes to the championship race, but they still have time to get things right.
