An injury to Joel Embiid has created another change at the top of the MVP oddsboard.
Welcome, Nikola Jokic.
The Nuggets big man is the new favorite at PointsBet as of March 13, following the news Embiid will miss some time with a bone bruise in his knee.
According to ESPN, Embiid will miss at least two weeks but is believed to have avoided serious injury.
Embiid completed his climb to the top of the oddsboard earlier this month, moving from his opening number of 36-1 all the way to +150 at FanDuel. The concern with Embiid has always been his ability to stay on the floor, and it's an issue again with the latest news.
Jokic is now +200 to win the award, ahead of LeBron James (+225) and Embiid (+600). While Embiid won January Player of the Month in the Eastern Conference, it was Jokic taking the award in the West.
The center is nearly averaging a triple-double with 27.2 points, 11.1 rebounds and 8.5 assists per game. Denver has won five games in a row to push its record to 22-15, good for fifth in the conference.
James is still firmly entrenched in the conversation. His minutes went up in February with the Lakers missing the injured Anthony Davis. With the preseason favorites Luka Doncic and Giannis Antetokounmpo falling behind early, James made a quick push to the top of the board. He has not won the award since 2013.
