Trades and Free Agent Signings
June 20
A busy day in the NBA got even busier late Thursday night when word broke just before midnight that Malik Monk is returning to the Kings. The guard is fresh off a career year, and he parlayed that performance into a four-year, $78 million contract.
The Bulls and Thunder are pulling off the first significant trade of the summer, swapping Alex Caruso for Josh Giddey. Many consider it a lopsided deal in Oklahoma City's favor with the Thunder getting an A grade for upgrading last year's top seed in the Western Conference.
June 19
The Pacers are reportedly signing Pascal Siakam to a four-year, $189.5 million max deal. Indiana acquired the All-Star forward in a blockbuster trade with the Raptors midway through the 2023-24 campaign in exchange Bruce Brown, Jordan Nwora and three first-round picks.
Trade Rumors
Here's a brief rundown on rumors our NBA Senior Writer Matt Moore is hearing.
- Donovan Mitchell appears primed to remain in Cleveland. The word in NBA circles is that Mitchell will re-sign with the Cavaliers, which would be a major coup for Koby Altman and the Cavs' front office according to NBA Senior Writer Matt Moore.
- The Magic are bullish on their future after this year's playoff appearance. One player who appears gone, though, is former No. 1 pick Markelle Fultz. However, there's a chance he returns to the Magic if he doesn't find a robust market.
- The Nets are fielding calls on Mikal Bridges, but their asks out of whack. "The Nets view him higher than everyone else, like everyone views their top guys," a source said. "They'll take the call because of their situation, but no one's going to [put forth a] Godfather offer for him. They traded Kevin Durant for him, for crying out loud."
- The Rockets are one of the biggest long-shots to win the title, but they are apparently dead-set on returning to the playoffs. They might be aggressive in the trade market in the coming weeks.
- Jimmy Butler made some questionable comments after Miami was eliminated from the postseason, and Heat president Pat Riley didn't hold back what he thought about his star player going on the record. He has one more year on his contract, and he might very well be on the move.
- League sources indicated that the response Wednesday morning from Phoenix was frustration, given that they haven't engaged in any trade talks for Durant yet. Matt Ishbia has positioned himself a superstar-chasing owner and isn't ready to give up on that yet despite Phoenix's disappointing season.
