Hawks vs. Bucks
Playing on the front-end of a road back-to-back, the Los Angeles Lakers are 3.5-point underdogs against the best team in the Western Conference, the Minnesota Timberwolves. Anthony Davis and LeBron James are questionable, but that has been their status before games for most of the season. Expect them to suit up in this conference clash.
This matchup took place nine days ago with the Timberwolves winning 118-111. In that game, Davis had no trouble scoring the ball with 31 points on 11-for-20 shooting from the field. However, he struggled on the glass against the Timberwolves frontcourt. Davis had eight rebounds in 39 minutes, which tied for his second-lowest of the season.
Not only do the Timberwolves have the best defensive rating in the league at 108.1, but they also rank eighth in rebounding percentage. They lead the league in points allowed at 107.4 and rank second in rebounds allowed at 40.7 per game. Davis may be tied with Nikola Jokic averaging 12.3 rebounds per game, but Rudy Gobert isn't far behind with 12 per game. Add Karl-Anthony Towns' 9.3 per game to the mix and there aren't many rebounds to go around.
Our prop model has Davis projected for only 10.8 rebounds in this difficult matchup. With his prop line coming in at 12.5, his under looks fantastic at -110 on the DraftKings sportsbook. In this slower-paced game environment, take the under on Davis reaching 13 rebounds against the massive Timberwolves frontcourt of Gobert and Towns tonight.
Pick: Anthony Davis Under 12.5 Rebounds (-110)
Thunder vs. Mavericks
Despite playing without two starters in Zach LaVine and Nikola Vucevic, the Bulls are 2.5-point home favorites against the 22-9 76ers tonight. A big reason why is the 76ers will be without reigning MVP Joel Embiid for the fourth straight game. The total for this matchup is a slate-low 223.5 points, but there is plenty of production to go around.
Coby White has been sensational for the Bulls in his fifth season. He is averaging career-high's across the board in points, rebounds, and assists per game. His peripherals have taken a major leap ever since LaVine was injured. In his last 14 games without the two-time All Star, White is averaging 6.1 rebounds and 6.1 assists per game. He has gone over his 10.5 rebounds and assists prop line in 10 of those 14 games (71.4%).
Our prop model has White projected for 11.4 rebounds and assists in this matchup that looks completely different without Embiid in the paint. In the six games that the 76ers have played without Embiid this season, their defensive rating drops from 110.7 to 118.0 and their rebounding percentage drops from 52.4% to 46%. Substantial differences.
In the last meeting between these two teams when Embiid was playing, White nearly recorded a triple-double with 24 points, nine assists and eight rebounds. In the 15 games without LaVine, White is averaging 6.0 assists and 5.7 rebounds per game with a 24.2% usage rate. This is a great spot to take his over peripheral stats against the 76ers.
