NBA Player Props for Monday, February 24
- Lonzo Ball Over 18.5 Points, Rebounds, & Assists (-120)
- Jamal Murray Over 19.5 Points (-175)
- Miles Bridges Over 6.5 Rebounds (-140)
Lonzo Ball is poised to take off in the final two months of the season. His ascension in February has been obscured by a couple of terrible shooting games, but the underlying numbers are encouraging. He opened the month by playing a season-high 28 minutes. He then pushed it to 29 minutes and 30 minutes, respectively, in the next 2 games.
Ball played 29 minutes on Saturday against Phoenix. Chicago has been cautious with his workload the entire season, as he hadn't topped 26 minutes until this recent stretch. It seems like they're finally taking the kid gloves off.
Zach LaVine is now in Sacramento. Ayo Dosunmu and Patrick Williams are sidelined with injuries. There are plenty of minutes and opportunities available right now. Ball has seen a team-leading 3.1% usage rate bump with LaVine off the floor. He's seen a team-leading 6.7% assist rate increase with LaVine and Dosunmu off the floor.
With Williams out, Matas Buzelis and Julian Phillips will split the power forward minutes. Tre Jones is handling backup PG work behind Josh Giddey. That leaves Ball, Coby White, and Kevin Huerter to cover all of the remaining minutes at the other two guard spots. They each played between 29-31 minutes against the Suns.
It's nice that Ball's role has improved, but the production hasn't been there. He's shot 25.6% from the field in February. He's converted on just 9 of his 28 potential assists. The rebounding has been solid (4 rebounds per game on 7.8 rebound chances), but everything else has been disappointing.
I'm willing to bet on a bounce-back effort given the strong underlying data, especially in this matchup. Philly is 27th in defensive rating over the past 10 games. Their defensive rating drops by 6.7 with Joel Embiid (doubtful) off the floor. Philly is dead last in rebounding rate and has allowed the 7th-most assists per game. I'm expecting a well-rounded effort from Ball tonight.
Pick: Lonzo Ball Over 18.5 Points, Rebounds, & Assists (-120)
By Kyle Murray
Admittedly, Jamal Murray has been one of my least favorite players to bet on this season, as he has been extremely inconsistent.
There's no doubt that he has a massive ceiling though, as he could go for 40+ points any given night.
He projects for north of 25 points in this game against the Pacers, who are on the second half of a back-to-back in a game with a 5-point spread and a 246 total, so we should expect plenty of scoring.
Additionally, the Pacers have allowed the 9th-most points to guards this season.
Pick: Jamal Murray Over 19.5 Points (-175)
