The first round of the 2023 NBA play-in tournament is complete in the Western Conference, as the Los Angeles Lakers advanced to take on the Memphis Grizzlies in the first round of the 2023 NBA playoffs.

The Grizzlies opened as a -120 favorite to win their 2023 NBA playoffs first round series, with the Lakers +102 to win the series.

The series spread is Grizzlies -1.5 (+172), with Lakers +1.5 priced at -215. The alt series spread of Lakers -1.5 is +176.

A Grizzlies sweep of the Lakers is +1300, while a Lakers sweep is +1500. The Grizzlies to win in 7 games is the likeliest outcome based on the series odds at +350, with Lakers in 7 next at +370.

Finally, the series exact games prices are:

+700 for a 4-game series
+260 for a 5-game series
+190 for a 6-game series
+180 for a 7-game series

Betting Analysis: Lakers vs Grizzlies Series Pick

Picks: Lakers +1.5 series spread, Lakers to win series, Lakers -1.5 alt series spread

Matt Moore — People really don’t understand how injured Memphis is.

One of the Grizzlies’ strengths was their positional flexibility. Dillon Brooks and Desmond Bane allow them to mix up coverages on the wing, while their bigs were able to play small with Jaren Jackson Jr. at the 5 and Brandon Clarke at the 4 (who was an impact and hustle play machine), or go two-big with Jaren Jackson at 4 and Steven Adams at 5.

Both Clarke and Adams are out for the playoffs. Here’s what they have left: Jackson, who is foul prone even when he’s not facing the team that gets the most beneficial whistle in league history, Xavier Tillman, and Santi Aldama. Maybe Kenny Lofton Jr., their two-way-contract beast, makes a surprise impact.

But the Lakers are going to eat at the foul line and inside. Jackson is likely to win DPOY, and he’s still going to wind up in constant foul trouble versus Anthony Davis. Jared Vanderbilt would be perfectly countered by Clark, but instead, he’s going to beat less experienced players on hustle plays.

The Grizzlies have a huge edge here in terms of halfcourt offense and 3-pointers; they can win several games in this series with the math edge.

But the value is on the Lakers as a dog. They are likely to close as favorites, given their public nature. When the series spread comes out, I will be on Lakers +1.5 and will be betting the Lakers to win the series, and -1.5 on an alt series spread as well.

Picks: Lakers +1.5 series spread, Lakers to win series, Lakers -1.5 alt series spread
