The 2021-22 NBA preseason is already underway and opening night (Oct. 19) is fast approaching. That means the window to bet NBA regular season props is quickly closing as well.
The metaphorical "NBA futures odds line in the sand" has been drawn, as most sportsbooks have the Brooklyn Nets as the obvious runaway favorite to win the title, with their title odds sitting at a consensus of +230.
The Los Angeles Lakers have the second-best odds at +400, and you can see a clear separation between the teams of LeBron James and Kevin Durant, and everyone else.
But when it comes to the 2021-22 regular season, it appears that sportsbooks may see an even greater gap between Brooklyn and the rest of the league.
The Nets are a +200 favorite to finish with the most regular-season wins via FanDuel.
The reigning champion Milwaukee Bucks come in at second with +350 odds and the UtahJazz round out the top-three at +400.
Utah led the league in wins last season with a record of 52-20. They collected their 52 wins behind a balanced attack led by guard Donovan Mitchell and center Rudy Gobert.
The Jazz were the only team in the league to finish top-five in offensive and defensive efficiency per NBA.com. Their homecourt advantage was obvious with a dominant 31-5 record at Vivint Arena.
Utah added veterans Rudy Gay and Eric Paschall, as well as rookie guard Jared Butler, to give their squad some much-needed options for small-ball lineups and address general versatility concerns.
Brooklyn is still dealing with vaccination concerns (read: Kyrie Irving), but still is the runaway favorite to finish with the most regular-season wins. Their big offseason is a major reason why.
What do you get a team that already has all the star power you could imagine? Complimentary role players, of course.
Nets General Manager Sean Marks deserves a huge round of applause for adding tough veterans Patty Mills, James Johnson, Paul Millsap, LaMarcus Aldridge and re-signing Blake Griffin.
The added depth on the Nets' roster should help them coast to wins against lesser competition when their stars need rest.
Brooklyn's depth should also keep them in games against tough competition if/when one of their stars is playing solo, so their shorter odds are very much warranted.
