Josh Hart Double-Double (+380)
Mitchell Robinson and Precious Achiuwa are both out for New York, which removes rebounding threats from Josh Hart’s path.
The Celtics love to shoot jumpers, and Joe Mazzulla may have them break the 3-point attempt rate record this season. A mediocre efficiency night – highly possible in Game 1 – would lead to plenty of high-percentage defensive rebounds for the Knicks. Al Horford’s range will also often drag Karl-Anthony Towns away from the paint, thus helping Hart’s rebounding total.
Towns loves the 3-point line as well, which leaves the paint relatively clear for Hart to snatch offensive rebounds. It should be a very productive night night on the glass, barring absurd efficiency from the Celtics.
The Knicks need Hart’s playmaking with Donte DiVincenzo and Julius Randle both gone. However, double-digit points are more likely. Hart will hustle his way to a few buckets, and he’s also a capable enough 3-point shooter to burn Boston on catch-and-shoot looks. Given how dynamic Jalen Brunson and Towns can be together, the Celtics may find themselves leaving Hart open often to deter New York’s stars.
Overall, he recorded a double-double in 25.9% of games last regular season.
Karl-Anthony Towns 2+ Made 3s (-205)
Boston’s defense surrendered the second most shots per game from above the break last season, and opposing centers averaged the 11th most made threes per game.
Pick-and-pop bigs can give them issues, which bodes well for arguably the most prolific jump-shooting center in league history. Look for Brunson to consistently collapse the defense and kick it out to Towns for a 3-point look. KAT’s quick release will make it difficult for Boston’s defenders to recover in time.
Al Horford 6+ Points (-340)
Across 19 games last season without Kristaps Porzingis, the veteran averaged 11.6 points on 8.1 field goal attempts per game. This volume led to Horford notching 6+ points in 17-of-19 games.
The Knicks are fielding a radically different roster, and defensive growing pains create miscommunications. Horford can take advantage through his 3-point shooting, and he’s also capable of a put-back or two.
The odds are gross yet mispriced to me, and they get the parlay from +550 to +700 odds.
