The Minnesota Timberwolves open the 2025 NBA season against LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers. How will the Wolves look sans Karl-Anthony Towns? Can JJ Redick win his first game as a professional coach?

Keep reading for my NBA same-game parlay for this Timberwolves vs Lakers matchup ahead of tip-off on TNT Tuesday, October 22 at 10 p.m. ET.

Naz Reid 2+ Made Threes (-110)

The Wolves radically altered their roster this offseason when they exchanged Karl-Anthony Towns for Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo. However, not much has changed in regards to Naz Reid. He remains a high-usage reserve who should see around 20 to 25 minutes here.

Reid shot 41.4% on five attempts per game from deep last season, and the Lakers especially felt his wrath. Here are his stats across four matchups against Los Angeles:

  • 31 points with six made threes
  • 25 points with five made threes
  • 21 points with two made threes
  • 9 points with three made threes

The Lakers’ defense gave up the fourth most triples and most wide-open triples last season, and the personnel is mostly the same on opening night. New head coach JJ Redick has the offense looking impressive so far, but I expect mistakes on the defensive end to start the season.

Anthony Davis 2+ Blocks (-150)

Anthony Davis is a perennial Defensive Player of the Year candidate who notched 2+ blocks in 48-of-76 games last regular season. He’s active as a pick-and-roll anchor and help defender. Davis being everywhere on the court led to him recording 11.2 contested shots per game – the fifth most in the NBA.

Minnesota’s spacing will be brutal with Randle and Rudy Gobert on the court, so Davis can freely roam like a safety to block shots. In four matchups last season, Davis had 0, 2, 2, and 3 blocks.

Minnesota Timberwolves Moneyline (-116)

Los Angeles relies on attacking the basket through LeBron James and Anthony Davis, but Minnesota’s elite defense has the tools to limit them. Rudy Gobert is arguably the top rim protector in the league, and the Wolves have plenty of size around him.

Austin Reaves and D’Angelo Russell will also find it difficult to get around Jaden McDaniels and Anthony Edwards’ tenacious on-ball defense.

On the other end, it’s difficult to trust the Lakers’ guards to hold their own, especially against Edwards.

This Wolves bench is extremely deep. DiVincenzo, Reid, Nickeil Alexander-Walker, Rob Dillingham, and Joe Ingles should win their minutes against a weakened Los Angeles bench that lacks Jarred Vanderbilt and Christian Wood due to injuries.

Based on the matchup, health, and Redick’s likely growing pains, I’m backing the Wolves to prevail.
