Game 1 between the Nets and 76ers on Saturday was a rout in favor of the home team as Philadelphia notched a 20-point victory to take the early series lead in this Eastern Conference NBA Playoff series.
James Harden put on a show against his former team with a 23-point, 13-assist performance while Joel Embiid poured in 26 points. Mikal Bridges led the way for Brooklyn with 30 points in a losing effort.
The 76ers look to take a commanding 2-0 series lead Monday night at the Wells Fargo Center.

Brooklyn Nets
Factoring in the four games these teams played in the regular season, the Sixers have now beaten the Nets five straight times. Brooklyn is now 1-4 against the spread (ATS) against Philadelphia this season.
On paper, the Nets did not play a terrible game. They shot 55% from the field and 44% from beyond the arc. The problem for the Nets was that Philadelphia shot 48% from behind the arc and attempted 43 long-range shots — and made 21 of them.
Brooklyn attempted 29 3s and made 13. Not terrible, but a big issue was the fact that the Nets took 19 fewer field-goal attempts than the 76ers. That's what happens when you turn the ball over 19 times.
Philadelphia 76ers
The 76ers played about as good as they could in the series opener.
James Harden, Joel Embiid and Tobias Harris each surpassed the 20-point mark. Harden also dished out 13 assists and knocked down 7-of-13 3-points shots.
Simply put, the 76ers are the superior team and they should put away this series in four games. But while it's obvious they will advance to the second round, the question is whether Philly can covered a double-digit spread.
Though the 76ers have beaten the Nets by 20 and 29 points in their last two contests, I expect some regression in Game 2.
Nets-76ers Pick
Harden, Tobias Harris and Tyrese Maxey combined for 13 3-pointers made in Game 1. I don’t think that will be the case again.
Over the last two months of the season, the Nets were 6-4 ATS as roads dogs. On the year, Brooklyn was 15-9 ATS as road dogs.
I believe Philadelphia won't match its Game 1 level on Monday night and that Brooklyn will find a way to keep it close. Thus, I'd back the Nets at +8.5 and better.
Pick: Nets +10 |
