Nuggets vs. 76ers Preview
The Denver Nuggets head to Philadelphia and look to right the ship after dropping three straight games to the Knicks, the Bulls, and the Timberwolves.
The Sixers have remained competitive without Joel Embiid and have now won four in a row against the Cavs, the Bulls, the Lakers, and the Kings. The Nuggets are significant favorites, but can the Sixers continue their hot streak?
The key injury here is Joel Embiid who remains out for the Sixers along with Paul George, Andre Drummond, Caleb Martin, and KJ Martin.
On the other hand, Denver is healthy and is taking a quick trip down from New York for this game – so even though it's a road game, it was not a far travel spot.
The Sixers have been plucky as long as they've had Tyrese Maxey. Maxey is +4.7 for this Philadelphia team with a whopping +9.2 on the offensive side of the ball. He's been floating this team despite their deficiencies.
Regardless, they still have struggle since the start of the new year. They are 6-10 in January with a -3.1 Net Rating and the league's third-worst defense. The Nuggets have the opposite record at 10-6 with a +5.5 Net Rating and the league's sixth-best offense, per Cleaning the Glass.
One of the major problems for Philly in this spot will be defending the rim. They have zero rim presence without both Joel Embiid and Andre Drummond and as good as Guerschon Yabusele has been, he is going to get destroyed by Jokic. I'd look at his over 39.5 PR for this game in a bounce back spot for the Nuggets.
One player that has dominated in this matchup is Michael Porter Jr. He has continually crushed his 14.5 Points line while averaging 18.8 points per game.
He has cleared this line in five straight games against Philly and a primary reason is that Philly allows a high frequency of looks from above the break, an area that MPJ thrives from. This also aligns for Julian Strawther who should get some run in this game too.
Nuggets vs. 76ers Prediction
The Sixers are the second worst team ATS this season at 17-27-2 but they are 4-1 in their last 5. They've captured something lately. However, this is now their third game in four days and just a brutal schedule spot.
When Denver played them 10 days ago they won 144-109. Denver needs to right the ship, and I expect them to do so here. So, I will lay the points with the Nuggets.
For my same game parlay, let's grab MPJ 2 three-pointers made, Jokic 25+ Points, and Jokic 8+ Assists.
Best Bet: Nuggets -9.5
Same Game Parlay Picks
- Nikola Jokic 25+ Points
- Michael Porter Jr. 2+ Three-Pointers Made
