Denver Nuggets vs Detroit Pistons NBA Friday Preview
The resurgent Pistons are one of the hottest teams in the NBA and put their eight-game winning streak on the line against visiting Denver. Detroit has won four in a row at Little Caesars Arena. This is the third contest of a four-game road trip for the Nuggets. Both teams are 8-2 in their last 10 games.
Detroit dispelled the myth they can’t beat playoff contenders with back-to-back victories vs. the Clippers and Celtics. The Nuggets most recently lost 121-112 at the Bucks despite a triple double from the transcendent Nikola Jokic
Containing Jokic is the primary task for Detroit. Jokic is a three-time MVP but this is perhaps the best season of his career. Jokic erupted for 37 points, nine rebounds and eight assists in the Nuggets’ 134-121 victory vs. the Pistons on Dec. 28.
Big men Jalen Duran and Isaiah Stewart have to play smart and stay out of foul trouble. They each had four fouls in the last meeting against Denver. Duran is one of the few centers that can at least challenge Jokic because of his physicality and athleticism.
Slowing down Jamal Murray is another focal point for the Pistons since he went for 34 points last time. Denver is an up-tempo team, fourth in the league in pace (101.11). The Nuggets are also second in offensive rating (119.1).
The Nuggets are 18-12 on the road. However, this is the second game of a road back-to-back for Denver, which should have an impact on their offense. Defense will be an issue for Denver in this one. The Nuggets are allowing an average of 119 points in their last four games.
Rising superstar Cade Cunningham will have a better game this time after shooting 7-for-18 in the first meeting. Cunningham has tallied 20+ points and 7+ assists in six consecutive games.
Detroit is fourth in the East in paint points largely because of Cunningham (12.2). Cunningham will use his size and length to create easy opportunities for his teammates.
Former Nugget Malik Beasley has evolved into a potent bench threat for the Pistons. Beasley will have added motivation against his former squad and should come up with a strong showing.
In terms of ATS, the Nuggets are 30-28 and the Pistons are 33-24-2. The Pistons should be able to cover the spread in a double-digit victory vs. the weary Nuggets tonight.
