Pistons vs. Heat Preview

The Pistons and Heat wrap up their season series on Wednesday night with both teams headed in opposite directions.

The upstart Pistons are firmly entrenched as the No. 6 seed in the East and are within a half game of the fifth-place Bucks. The Pistons are on their way to reaching the postseason for the first time since 2019 and posting their first winning record since 2016.

Meanwhile, the Heat are mired in an eight-game losing streak after blowing another double-digit lead in a loss to the Knicks on Monday. This is the longest losing streak for the Heat under future Hall of Fame coach Erik Spoelstra. The Heat have plummeted to 10th in the East, the final spot for the Play-In tournament.

The Heat won the first meeting in Miami and the Pistons took the next two in Detroit. However, this is the first matchup between the teams since the departure of Jimmy Butler.

Andrew Wiggins (lower leg) is questionable for the Heat and Jaden Ivey (lower leg) is out for the Pistons.

Frustratingly, despite having capable veterans in Tyler Herro and Bam Adebayo, the Heat have floundered in the wake of Butler being dealt to the Warriors. The Heat especially miss Butler in crunch time. In the past 10 games, the Heat have a net rating of -23.8 in the fourth quarter. Also in that stretch, the Heat are last in offensive rating.

Anchored by budding superstar Cade Cunningham and steady center Jalen Duren, the Pistons are rolling. In their past 10 games, the Pistons lead the league in defensive rating and have the fourth-best net rating. The Pistons routed the Pelicans by 46 points on Monday.

The Heat have dropped five in a row at home and that trend will continue. The Pistons are too locked in and focused for a slip up right now. They'll cover the spread for an easy road victory.
