Raptors vs. Lakers Preview

Last night, the Raptors fell 105-103 to the Clippers as their comeback fell just short. Tonight, they will remain in Southern California to take on the Lakers. While the Clippers are fourth in defensive rating this season, the Raptors will not see that level of defensive pressure tonight.

The Lakers enter tonight's game ranked 27th in defensive rating. Their poor performance on that end led to head coach JJ Redick making a change to his starting lineup, inserting Cam Reddish for D'Angelo Russell. The move paid immediate dividends as the Lakers limited the Sixers to 106 points in a 10-point victory; however, keep in mind that Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey were out.

The Lakers secured another victory over an Eastern Conference foe when they defeated the Raptors 131-125 nine days ago for the lone victory on their road trip. The Raptors did not have point guard Immanuel Quickley for that game as he returned last night and scored 21 points. However, center Jakob Poeltl was available as he had 19 points and 12 rebounds in the first meeting.

Poeltl enters tonight's matchup averaging 15 points and 11 rebounds per game. He has had 10 rebounds in six of his last eight games and he is in another good matchup tonight. The Lakers are 22nd in rebounds allowed per game and last in rebounds allowed to centers.

One thing Poeltl struggled to do in the first meeting was contain Anthony Davis, who has been a handful for the entire league as he is the NBA's leader scorer at 32.4 points per game. He has scored 25 points in eight games this season. Davis is probable for today's game with right plantar fasciitis and he should be able to take advantage of a great matchup. The Raptors are 29th in defensive rating and also 29th in points allowed to centers.

Raptors vs. Lakers Prediction

The over has hit in each of the last six matchups in this series. Five of those six games have gone over 236 points, including 256 points in the first meeting. The Raptors are 7-3 to the over this season while the Lakers are 5-4 to the over overall. With two bottom-five defenses in this matchup, I expect that trend to continue.

In addition to the over, I will be backing Davis to score 25 points and Poeltl to notch 10 rebounds in a same-game parlay.

Best Bet: Over 236 (-108 via DraftKings)
Same Game Parlay: Over 236 + Anthony Davis 25 Points + Jakob Poeltl 10 Rebounds (+320, DraftKings)
