The Phoenix Suns (30-35) and the Houston Rockets (40-25) will meet in the NBA tonight. Tipoff is set for 8:00 p.m. ET at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas. The game will be broadcast live on NBA League Pass.

The Rockets are 4.5-point favorites over the Suns on the spread (Rockets -4.5), with the over/under set at 229 total points. Houston is a -175 favorite to win outright, while Phoenix is +145 to pull off the upset.

Let's get into my Suns vs. Rockets predictions and NBA picks for Wednesday, March 12.

Quickslip

Suns vs. Rockets Picks, Prediction

Spread

As much as I want to bet Houston ATS, I'm skeptical without Amen Thompson and with a returning Fred VanVleet. Pass.

Moneyline

I don't love Houston at -175, but I don't want Phoenix either. Pass.

Over/Under

The best bet in this game might be on the total. Rockets games are under in six of eight and their strong defense should be a key factor in this contest on their home court.

My Pick: Under 229 (-110)

Suns vs. Rockets Preview

How could you confidently bet the Phoenix Suns the rest of the season?

Well, they've actually covered in four straight games and in six of eight. They're only 3-5 straight up in this stretch, with their only wins coming against the lowly Pelicans, the C-team Mavericks and the Clippers thanks to a one-off collapse in the fourth quarter.

Phoenix is still second to last against the spread in the NBA, but better lately. Houston? They've covered in seven of 10, including three straight, and are top ten ATS this year.

Injury wise, Monte Morris sits for Phoenix, but as of now, everyone else is on tap. For the Rockets, there's no Amen Thompson or Reed Sheppard, but Fred VanVleet is probable and in line to play for the second time since the All-Star Break.

Suns vs. Rockets Prediction

This matchup presents some challenges. While Houston’s ATS record is strong, the absence of Thompson and the return of VanVleet—who struggled in his first game back—create uncertainty. Because of this, betting the Rockets ATS feels risky.

Phoenix on the moneyline has some appeal, though Houston is 22-10 at home (seventh best record) and 19-8 as a home favorite (13th). Phoenix, as road underdog, is 1-15 this season — they have one win as a road underdog, but they're 7-9 ATS.

Rockets games are under in six of eight. Suns games are over in seven of nine. The two games that went under were against Minnesota and Memphis. Houston has 14 unders, 12 overs and a push as a home favorite. Phoenix has nine overs and seven unders as a road dog.

I like the under here. Yes, I'm worried about Phoenix's 27th ranked defense, but the Rockets are third and still sharp without Thompson on that end because of their depth. Their offense is also not very clean… at all.

These teams are polar opposites, but ultimately, I think the Rockets will dictate a good amount of this contest based on their home track record, and reentering VanVleet shouldn't make for the smoothest of implementations, Especially judging by our most recent example of this on March 1, where he scored three points on 1-for-8 shooting in 35 minutes.

I like under 229 on DraftKings. Anything below 228, I'm out, personally.

Best Bet: Under 229 (-110)
