Oklahoma City Thunder vs San Antonio Spurs NBA Sunday Preview

After losing superstar Victor Wembanyama for the rest of the season, the Spurs hit a rough patch coming out of the All-Star break. However, last night, they snapped a four-game losing streak with a 130-128 victory over the Grizzlies. De'Aaron Fox hit one of his patented stepback jumpers with 2.6 seconds to go to help San Antonio spring the upset. Fox is averaging 19.6 points, 4.3 rebounds, 6.8 assists, and 2.1 steals per game since being acquired from Sacramento.

The Spurs return home tonight, but things certainly will not get any easier against Oklahoma City as they are double-digit underdogs on the second night of a back-to-back. The Thunder have won four of their first five games out of the All-Star break but may have suffered a key loss with another injury to center Chet Holmgren.

The 22-year-old sprained his left ankle in the first half against Atlanta and did not return. He is averaging 15.2 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 2.7 blocks per game this season. Holmgren is out for tonight's game, along with Isaiah Joe and Alex Caruso.

Isaiah Hartenstein played off the bench for just the second time this season on Friday but stepped up after Holmgren went down. He had 13 points, 10 rebounds, and six assists in 27 minutes. It was his 20th double-double game in 39 games this season and he is averaging 10.9 points and 11.4 rebounds per game as a starter this season.

The bulk of Oklahoma City's scoring punch will come from Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Jalen Williams, who combined for over 50 points once again against the Hawks. Gilgeous-Alexander is averaging 32.3 points per game this season and has 36 30-point games this season. He is one of four players in the last 25 years to record 35 games with 30 points in three consecutive seasons.

Williams is averaging 21 points per game and scored 27 points in the last matchup against the Spurs in November. He has scored at least 18 points in nine of his last 10 games.

Thunder vs Spurs Betting Predictions

There are not many NBA teams that I am comfortable laying a spread this big, but the Thunder are one of them. Even when they get down early, they have consistently shown the ability to go on a big run or two and then cruise to a comfortable victory. Of the Thunder's 48 wins, 38 of them have been double digits. They are 36-20-4 against the spread this season and 14-12-1 as a road favorite.

Oklahoma City has also won and covered seven of the last 10 meetings against San Antonio and four of those wins have been by 14 points or more. Now, they get the Spurs traveling back home after a nail-biter in which Fox, Devin Vassell, Jeremy Sochan, Keldon Johnson, and Stephon Castle all played 30 minutes.

Additionally, the Spurs have struggled offensively with the exception of last night's games. They have scored 106 points or less in three of their six games since the All-Star break and three of those games were double-digit losses.

I like Oklahoma City to win comfortably tonight and will be backing Gilgeous-Alexander, Williams, and Hartenstein in tonight's same-game parlay.
