Thunder vs. Trail Blazers Preview
Oklahoma City has been one of the most profitable teams to back this season as it is 26-14-2 against the spread as a favorite this season. However, the Thunder have failed to cover its last two games when favored by double digits, defeating the Jazz 123-114 on Wednesday and losing outright to the Mavericks 121-115 the following night. Tonight, Oklahoma City will find itself as a double-digit favorite once again.
One thing that has not changed is Shai Gilgeous-Alexander's dominance. The Canadian superstar scored a career-high 54 points against the Jazz and followed that up with a 31-point outing against the Mavericks.
Gilgeous-Alexander is averaging 34.2 points, 4.6 rebounds, 6.4 assists and is shooting 53.3% from the field this month. He remains the favorite to his first MVP award as well.
His running mate, Jalen Williams, is also coming off a 30-point game against Dallas (33 to be exact). Williams has scored 20 points in four of his last eight games, finishing with 19 three times, but there is a good chance that he gets there today. In nine career games against Portland, Williams is averaging 20.8 points per game. However, he has scored 20 points in five of the last six meetings, going over 30 in two of the last three.
For tonight's game, the Thunder will be without defensive ace Lugentz Dort, and Aaron Wiggins is expected to start in his place. However, center Isaiah Hartenstein will return to the lineup and add some much-needed size in the interior.
Oklahoma City is 30-3 when either Hartenstein or Chet Holmgren are available. However, getting to 31 may have a little more resistance than expected tonight.
Portland is returning home after a 3-0 road trip, that included wins over the Heat and Magic, and it has won four straight overall. That win streak coincides with the return of Jerami Grant, who has scored 18 points in three of his last four games.
The Thunder are one of four former teams for Grant, so there may not be a revenge factor here. However, he does love facing them. Since joining the Blazers, Grant is averaging 17.5 points in nine games against the Thunder.
Deni Avidja took advantage of Grant's absence, but he has continued his strong play since Grant returned as well. Over his last 10 games, he is averaging 16.9 points and 8.6 rebounds per game. He should be a factor on the glass once again tonight considering that Oklahoma City is 28th in rebounds allowed and 26th to power forwards.
Thunder vs. Trail Blazers Prediction
The Over is 8-2 in Oklahoma City's last 10 games and its offense has been a main reason. The Thunder have scored 120 points in six of their last 10 games. They have also won 14 straight meetings against the Blazers and have scored 123 points in eight of them. That includes scoring 137 points in Portland in November.
They will likely get there again if Gilgeous-Alexander and Williams combine for over 50 points as they usually do. Gilgeous-Alexander has scored 30 points in eight of his last 10 games and in six of his last 10 games in Portland.
Williams is coming off consecutive 25-point games, and he also scored 30 points in his last game against the Trail Blazers.
Portland will counter with their wing tandem of Grant and Avidja. Grant has scored 14 points in nine of his last 10 games against the Thunder. He has also taken 11 field goal attempts in his last four games.
Meanwhile, Avidja has recorded 22 points and rebounds in seven of his last 10 games. He has also cleared this line in six of his last seven games played without DeAndre Ayton and attempted 10 field goals in four of them. Should these trends continue, this same-game parlay will cash.
