Timberwolves vs. Nuggets Pick

In 2023, the Denver Nuggets defeated the Minnesota Timberwolves in five games in the first round. In last year's playoffs, the Timberwolves returned the favor, defeating the Nuggets in seven games to advance to the Western Conference Finals. Depending on how the remainder of the regular season shakes out, a third straight playoff series could be in the cards.

The Nuggets are 1.5 games back of the Houston Rockets for the second seed while the Timberwolves are a half game back of the Warriors for the sixth seed — both the 2-7 and 3-6 matchups are in play. However, it may not be a matchup that the Nuggets are looking forward to.

This season, Minnesota has taken the first three meetings, winning two of the three as an underdog, like it is tonight. The Timberwolves won in Denver, 115-95, three weeks ago. Anthony Edwards led the way with 29 points while knocking down five 3s. The Timberwolves star is averaging 30.7 points and 6.3 assists per game while shooting 51.5% from the field against Denver this season.

Nuggets star, Nikola Jokic, missed some time with an ankle injury last month. However, the Nuggets have won their past two games by double digits since Jokic returned. The three-time MVP remains on pace to average a triple-double for the season. Minnesota does well to limit his impact as a passer as he had 10 assists in just seven of the past 19 regular-season games. However, he has scored 25 or more points in 13 of those games.

Jokic is probable for tonight's game, along with Christian Braun. Jamal Murray and Aaron Gordon are questionable. Murray has averaged 23 points and six assists per game since the All-Star Break. However, Minnesota has been a team that he has struggled against, including scoring just 12 points in the most recent meeting.

Timberwolves vs. Nuggets Prediction

Minnesota is 7-3 over its past 10 games with a +11.6 net rating. It has won five of the past seven regular season meetings against the Nuggets and covered six of those games. Minnesota is 6-4 ATS in its past 10 games and 8-5 ATS as a road underdog this season. At +2.5 and more likely to be at full strength, I have to back Minnesota as a road underdog.

Look for Edwards to lead the way as he scored 25 or more points in seven of his past 10 games and in 10 of his past 11 regular season games against Denver (he finished with 24 in the lone miss). On the other side, Jokic has scored 25 points in six straight games.

His running mate, Murray, has struggled against Minnesota's length whether it is Edwards, Jaden McDaniels or Nickeil Alexander-Walker, who may see extended minutes if Donte DiVincenzo is suspended tonight. Murray has failed to score 21 points in seven of his past nine regular season games against Minnesota. If he goes tonight, I don't expect him to get there once again.

Best Bet: Minnesota +3 (-108, DraftKings)

Same Game Parlay Picks

  • Nikola Jokic 25 Points
  • Anthony Edwards 25 Points
  • Jamal Murray Under 21.5 Points

Parlay Payout: +230 via DraftKings
