Trail Blazers vs. Warriors Preview

The Trail Blazers have been shorthanded for much of the season, particularly in the frontcourt, but they could be a bit healthier tonight.

Deandre Ayton is the only player who is definitely out. Robert Williams seems unlikely to suit up, though there's a small chance he returns after a 9-game absence. Deni Avdija is questionable.

Everyone else should be available for Portland, including backup center Jabari Walker, who missed last night's game.

Clingan will remain in the starting lineup, but that hasn't meant huge minutes. He's averaged just 22.1 minutes per game as a starter (21 games), and has reached 30 minutes in only 2 games all season.

The matchup against Golden State isn't ideal. They start Draymond Green at center and typically lean on smaller lineups.

Walker and Duop Reath might make more sense to counter Golden State's undersized frontcourt. Portland could also turn to Jerami Grant as a small-ball center option. So, there are multiple paths to a limited role for the lumbering Clingan.

The Warriors are 2nd in defensive rating over the past 10 games. They have allowed the 4th-fewest points in the paint per game. Golden State has also held centers to the 7th-fewest points per game.

Clingan has exceeded this line in only 2 of his past 10 outings. He's averaging 7.2 points per game as a starter. I think we'll see him to fall short of 8 points in this spot.
