Warriors vs. Timberwolves Preview

While preseason expectations were not too high for the Warriors (43.5 win total) this season, the team got off to a 12-3 start to begin the year. Since then, they have regressed to the mean, going just 7-17. The injury bug has not helped matters as Jonathan Kuminga and Brandin Podziemski are both out indefinitely. Additionally, Draymond Green and Kyle Anderson are questionable for tonight's game.

With the Warriors potentially short-handed tonight, that will put more pressure on Stephen Curry against a tough Minnesota defense. Individually, Curry has done well in this matchup as he averaged 29 points over his last 10 games against Minnesota. However, Minnesota had won six of the last eight meetings before the Warriors took the last two matchups last month.

Those matchups did not feature much scoring, with the three meetings this season averaging 211 total points. Two of the meetings have gone under and tonight's total sits at 215 points.

Minnesota's offense has been a topic of conversation this year following the trade of Karl-Anthony Towns. While it continues to figure things on that end, Minnesota has won four of its last five games.

Anthony Edwards has led the way as he is averaging 30.6 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 5.6 assists per game this month. Edwards has essentially hit his season averages against the Warriors, averaging 25.3 points, 5.3 rebounds, and seven assists.

The Warriors are 23rd in rebounds and 18th in assists allowed. Minnesota is a bit more stingy in assists allowed, surrendering the fifth-fewest per game. However, that may not deter Green if he plays. Green has recorded five assists in six of the last eight games in which he has played 20 minutes against Minnesota. He was ejected in the first quarter of a rather infamous game between these teams a couple of years ago.

Warriors vs. Timberwolves Prediction

The under has hit in six of the last 10 meetings in this series, with the teams averaging 211 points in their three matchups this season. The Warriors have struggled offensively of late, failing to crack 100 points in five of their last 10 games. In that span, they have a 108 offensive rating while ranking 25th in the league.

Defensively, the Warriors have remained strong, ranking ninth in defensive rating over their last 10 games. The under is 7-3 in their last 10 games and 23-16 for the season. The Warriors are eighth in defensive rating for the season and the Timberwolves are fifth. With top-10 defenses squaring off, I expect this game to land under 216 points.

I do, however, expect Edwards and Curry to find some room to operate. Edwards is coming into this game hot and he has scored 20 points in five of his last six games against the Warriors while scoring 19 in the lone exception. In those last six games against Golden State, he has also recorded 11 rebounds and assists combined. He has cleared that line in four of his last games overall as well.

Meanwhile, Curry has scored 20 points in four of his last five games and in each of his last 11 games against the Timberwolves. When he gets going, he usually has Green setting him up. Their chemistry should help us cash the last two legs of this same-game parlay.

Best Bet: Under 215.5 (Play to 214.5)

Same Game Parlay Picks

  • Anthony Edwards 20+ Points
  • Stephen Curry 20+ Points
  • Draymond Green Over 4.5 Assists
  • Anthony Edwards Over 10.5 Rebounds + Assists

Parlay Payout: +377
