Allen Iverson was the latest guest on Shaquille O’Neal’s “The Big Podcast with Shaq,” which has had several noteworthy guests and viral moments since launching a few months ago with Playmaker HQ.
Shaq asked Iverson which player in the NBA reminds him of himself. Iverson briefly noted “everybody” mentions Ja Morant, but there was something more pressing on his mind. Rather than talk about who plays the game like he did, he instead wanted to gush about Luka Dončić.
“Man, let me tell you about this guy,” he said, eyes growing wide. “What the hell is wrong with Luka?”
“Luka’s different,” Shaq’s co-host Adam Lefkoe followed up. “73 in Atlanta. Ball on a string.”
“You can go there, but I ain’t even want to go there. That goes without saying, 73,” Iverson cut in. “I’m talking about his style. His style is kind of like streetball. … He’s got swag. He’s so cool out there. Everything's just slow. Just major moves. The wet ball. He shoots the blood out of that thing. Man, Luka is (special).”
Dončić is one of several players dominating the modern era. However, Shaq noted how he and Iverson “played in an era where we were allowed to touch people up, hand checking up the court.” Considering what a special scorer Iverson was back when the league was far more physical, Shaq wanted to know what Iverson would average in this day and age.
“I lost the scoring title to Kobe (Bryant) the year he averaged 35,” Iverson said. "I averaged 33. I’m just thinking if I was to play in this era where it’s wide open, if I could average 33 in a season, I’m just gonna take it up to 43. I know 10 points more. Gotta be.”
