Arizona State vs Arizona College Basketball Betting Preview
The Arizona Wildcats are looking to bounce back Tuesday night after a blowout loss at Iowa State on Saturday. The Wildcats have a golden opportunity to get right against their intra-state rival Arizona State Sun Devils.
Arizona State guard Adam Miller is questionable for Tuesday, and considering Bobby Hurley's team won't be going to the Big Dance in a couple of weeks, the Sun Devils are certainly on quit watch. It's also a terrible matchup for Arizona State, as it'll be outclassed all evening.
The Sun Devils rank in the bottom portion of the Big 12 in offensive and defensive efficiency, and it's frightening how bad they've been. Losers of eight of their last nine contests, the Sun Devils will need a miraculous defensive improvement to slow down the Wildcats coming off a loss.
The Wildcats rank near the bottom of the conference in 3-point shooting, but they've scored excellently inside the arc. That's a glaring weakness of the Sun Devils' defense, which spells for a long night on the defensive end of the floor.
The Wildcats are also the No. 1 team in the Big 12 in free throw percentage, shooting 81% at the line. Even if the triples aren't falling, it'll be tough for the Sun Devils to keep up offensively.
The only way for the Sun Devils to pull off a miracle would be a remarkable performance from deep, as they're shooting 36% as a team. The issue is that the Wildcats are excellent defensively out on the perimeter, and it's tough to envision them getting torched from deep in consecutive matchups.
The Wildcats should dominate the glass on both sides, as that's another area of concern for Arizona State.
The Wildcats won the first matchup by nine in Tempe, but I expect a massive bounce-back performance from Tommy Lloyd's team here.
I hate laying large numbers at this time of the year, but the Sun Devils have zero postseason aspirations and will have their hands full all evening long.
