My Baylor vs Houston College Basketball Betting Preview
Houston lost to Texas Tech at home, but otherwise, the Cougars have been flawless at the Fertitta Center against Big 12 opponents this season, winning by an average margin of 21.8 points per game.
Sure, the schedule hasn't exactly been murderer's row (BYU, TCU, West Virginia, Utah, Oklahoma State), however, this is still the Big 12 we're talking about.
So, how does Houston do this? Well, it's the same for all Kelvin Sampson-coached teams: The Cougars fluster opponents with defense (third in KenPom's defensive efficiency metric) and toughness (59th in rebounding, 21st in offensive rebounding).
Baylor will have major problems solving Houston's defense for two reasons: They're terrible on the road (363rd in Haslametrics' away-from-home metric) and they rely on two freshmen in the backcourt (VJ Edgecombe and Robert Wright III).
Also, the Bears are 293rd in the country in defensive rebounds per game, which gives the Cougars a significant edge to lean on in this matchup.
Finally, Houston has the motivational edge, as it's currently tied with Arizona atop the Big 12 standings. The Wildcats are facing Kansas State on the road on Tuesday, giving the Cougars a good chance of grabbing sole possession of first if they win on Monday.
