Baylor vs Texas Tech College Basketball Betting Preview
Texas Tech ranks No. 13 in the AP Poll, but it almost feels like its storyline is still undervalued nationally.
The Red Raiders are in sole position of third place in the Big 12 standings thanks to six straight wins.
Most recently, Texas Tech beat Houston at the Fertitta Center, ending the Cougars' 33-game winning streak at home. Even more impressively, the Red Raiders did this without JT Toppin and head coach Grant McCasland, who were both ejected in the first half.
Regardless, this is a spot to sell high on the Red Raiders, who are due for a letdown at some point.
Texas Tech is elite offensively (ninth in KenPom's adjusted offensive efficiency metric), but so is Baylor. The Bears rank 12th in the same category and have a plethora of guards playing at a high level right now.
In particular, freshmen VJ Edgecombe and Robert Wright III have hit their strides, with the latter dropping 21 or more points in three of his last four and the former scoring 20-plus in two straight.
While the Bears have struggled on the road this season, they're coming off a monumental win over Kansas after trailing by 19 points at the half. That proves that despite relying on freshmen, they're plenty capable of sticking with the top teams in the conference.
Finally, Texas Tech's Kevin Overton (head) didn't play on Saturday against Houston. While that didn't seem to impact the Red Raiders in that particular outing, his absence puts a limit and strain on the Red Raiders' backcourt depth.
That could be a huge factor in a game where guard play poses as the biggest handicap.
