Boise State vs Colorado State Mountain West Tournament Preview

The Colorado State Rams have been scorching hot since the middle of February, rattling off nine consecutive victories. They've stormed their way to tonight's championship game and will take on the Boise State Broncos, who upset New Mexico last night.

It's an intriguing matchup, considering the Broncos have been ice cold from three since conference play began, despite ranking 2nd in the Mountain West in attempts in that area. Meanwhile, it's been the polar opposite for the Rams, who went 10-18 from deep last night against the Aggies.

The Rams have been shooting the triple well all season, although metrics suggest they are due to cool down at some point. However, it is important to note that the Rams' interior scoring has been the best in the conference, so even if the threes are not falling, they should still be able to put up their fair share of points.

Senior Forward Nique Clifford has put the Rams on his back as of late, dropping 26 points in Friday night's victory. He's been tremendous all season and will undoubtedly be the most talented player on Saturday night.

Both teams like to slow down the pace on offense, ranking outside the top 250 in adjusted tempo. They want to grind the game down and beat you in the halfcourt.

Despite the slow tempo, these two teams are outstanding free-throw shooters with 78%. The Rams do not get to the line as much as the Broncos, but defensively, they do a great job at staying disciplined.

In what should be a closely contested matchup, every possession will be critical down the stretch. Both teams can be a bit careless with the ball, but they also do not force turnovers on the defensive side.

The Broncos should have the slight edge on the glass, as they'll have the size advantage and were the best offensive-rebounding team in the conference. They will need to capitalize on those second-chance scoring opportunities, especially against this Rams offense.

The market has been disrespecting the Rams for weeks, as they've already flipped to a short underdog for tonight's game. There is no way I am stepping in front of the Rams freight train right now with Clifford leading the way.

I trust the Rams will get the job done tonight. They've been scorching hot, and I simply think they are the better offensive team. I am a bit worried about three-point shooting regression, but their interior scoring is strong enough that I do not think it will matter.

The Rams have not lost since February 15th, and I expect them to cut down the nets tonight in Las Vegas.
