Clemson vs Pittsburgh College Basketball Betting Preview
Pitt looks lost. The Panthers have lost three straight ugly games, most recently by 12 to hapless Florida State.
But if there’s ever a time to buy Pitt, it’s now.
Two of those losses were on the road, including one against the unstoppable Duke Blue Devils. The Panthers are now back home — where they’re 7-3 ATS this season — with their backs against the wall, trying to avoid dropping into bubble conversations.
They’ll host Clemson.
The red-hot Tigers are 6-1 in conference play, but it hasn’t been the most arduous road. They’ve played four of their past six games at home, have faced the league’s easiest schedule (per KenPom) and their seven conference opponents have shot a combined 27% from deep, a mark sure to regress.
Saturday is a good regression and letdown spot for Brad Brownell and company against a relative step-up competition.
I loathe the schematic matchup. Pitt likely struggles to defend Clemson’s post-heavy offense, while the Tigers' rock-solid ball-screen-coverage unit should withstand the Panthers’ pick-and-roll actions.
But I can’t talk myself off the situational spot.
Ishmael Leggett is still among the ACC’s most dynamic playmakers and scorers. I’m banking on a hair-on-fire performance in a must-win situation — perhaps he's looking to avenge his 2-for-15 shooting performance in the Duke game.
