Coastal Carolina vs Southern Miss College Basketball Betting Preview
While Southern Miss has the better conference record (5-13 compared to 3-15 for Coastal Carolina) and is favored, the Golden Eagles have lost eight straight games heading into this Sun Belt Tournament first-round matchup.
One of those eight defeats came at home against Coastal Carolina, 87-78. In fact, the Chants dominated — specifically in the second half — as they led by as many as 20 points.
Another negative coming into this matchup for Southern Miss is that Andre Curbelo has been dismissed from the team.
Yes, the former Illinois and St. John's product can be more trouble than he's worth, but the guard is still a supremely talented player who can offer a team upside in a win-or-go-home situation. They're also 0-3 since he was dismissed, so it's not like a burden has been lifted in the locker room.
The Chants' 12-game Sun Belt losing streak earlier this season doesn't inspire confidence; however, Coastal has at least righted the ship a bit, winning two of four while keeping one of the losses (to Old Dominion) close.
If Jordan Battle (Coastal's leading scorer) can have another monster outing — like his 29-point performance in the first meeting between these two — the Chants could win this postseason neutral site game (in Florida) straight up.
