If only St. John's could've sold out Madison Square Garden for this matchup rather than its bout with UConn this past Saturday.
All jokes aside, this DePaul bunch finds new ways to disappoint on a game-by-game matchup. I tried to get cute and buy the Blue Demons as 13-point home dogs against Xavier on Saturday, but they didn't sniff the spread at any point in that matchup.
St. John's is clearly the better team in this matchup — as the spread suggests — but there are other factors that we need to consider before making our selection for this Tuesday night Big East matchup that's sadly not in the Garden.
Here's NCAAB odds and a pick for DePaul vs. St. John's.
Dead last DePaul. The Blue Demons have reached a new low in the Tony Stubblefield era. They're uncompetitive as ever and a true embarrassment to the Big East and high-major basketball as a whole.
Coming into the season, their roster looked to be somewhat improved, but that clearly wasn't the case. They have horrific metrics on both sides of the ball and have nothing going for them.
The only motivating factor for the Demons is to win for Stubblefield and spoil other Big East teams' seasons.
They have an opportunity to upset a team in St. John's that may be looking ahead to bigger matchups on its schedule.
DePaul hasn't come within single digits of any opponent since January 6 at Georgetown — exactly a month to the day of Tuesday's matchup in New York.
St. John's is coming off a loss in a mega-hyped game against UConn that was hosted at "The Mecca." The Johnnies stuck around against the No. 1 team in the country before the Huskies flexed their muscles in the second half.
St. John's has lost two straight games, but it has every chance to bounce back against this woeful DePaul squad.
The Red Storm may have an eye on their next game, though, as they head to Marquette, which is great chance to boost a resume that's lacking in conference play. The Johnnies' best wins have come against a Villanova team that has fell off a cliff, so they're desperate to earn a quality victory.

Betting Pick & Prediction
DePaul is not going to win this game, but we're posed with a double-digit spread. I can see the Demons finally covering a game.
Although they'll be the inferior side, I see a path where they can put up points in this fast-paced affair and break the infamous Rick Pitino press.
Although DePaul has been downright awful, it's a fairly athletic team. The Demons are unorganized and chaotic, which, at times, can be good against a press.
We're betting numbers here: DePaul will cover sooner than later, and I really believe it has a great chance to get the job done against St. John's.
