Milwaukee's KenPom number isn't indicative of how dangerous this team could be against Providence on Saturday.

So, let's dig into the matchup and offer up a Milwaukee vs. Providence pick.

Milwaukee Panthers

I'll preface the Milwaukee section by saying it's unknown if leading scorer BJ Freeman will suit up against Providence after he missed the opener for violating team rules. If Milwaukee is to have any chance of winning, it'll need Freeman on the court.

The Panthers struggled against high-major competition last season and lost by 45 combined points against Purdue and Iowa State.

Milwaukee's offense runs through Freeman — who averaged 18 points for the Panthers last season. He's the exact type of player needed to compete against high-major opponents. His size, ball-handling ability and propensity to draw fouls are elite.

Providence's perimeter length and defense could limit Freeman if he plays, which means that Angelo Stuart and Kentrell Pullian will need to score. Stuart scored 18 points to lead the team in their season opener and Pullian snagged 12 rebounds from the guard spot.

Providence Friars

Providence has a ton of athleticism and talent. The Friars boast an impressive front court duo of Bryce Hopkins and Josh Oduro. In fact, they're one of the most fearful duos in the Big East. Against Milwaukee's questionable front court, it makes sense for the Friars to quickly establish dominance in the post.

Hopkins and Oduro love to drive and Milwaukee's rim protection is problematic. The only player on the Panthers roster above 6-foot-9 is Faizon Fields, who stands at 6-foot-10. The good thing for the Panthers is that Learic Davis and Langston Wilson each have verticals over 40 inches, so what's lacking in size is made up for in athleticism.

The Friars' best back court player is Devin Carter, who stuffed the stat sheet in the opener with 13 points, six rebounds and four assists. He's the conductor of the offense and has to focus on getting the bigs involved. His shot-making ability will also factor into this game
.

Betting Pick & Prediction

I'm a fan of Milwaukee's program, but favorites have covered the spread in over 57% of games in the opening week of the college hoops season. That's worth something, and Providence is good enough to keep the trend rolling. The Friars talent advantage is vast, too.

Pick: Providence -16.5
