Two bottom-half American Athletic Conference teams meet up at Devlin Fieldhouse on Sunday.
Although neither of these teams have a winning record, one is clearly better than the other. Tulane has had a ton of close calls this season and has some really impressive wins, while Temple comes in as one of the conference's bottom-tier teams.
This is the first and only meeting between the two teams this season, which is unusual for most conferences.
Tulane has won four of the previous five meetings in this matchup, which is extremely impressive because Temple has been solid for the last few seasons.
Temple was doomed from the start of this season. It lost nearly all of its production from the last few seasons and really lacks that firepower.
The Owls are used to having a "bucket-getter" in their backcourt. Players like Khalif Battle and Damian Dunn were extremely impressive scorers, but both transferred out of Philadelphia. Those are massive losses, as the two are now key pieces on much better teams, with Battle playing for Arkansas and Dunn contributing to Houston.
Temple ranks outside of the top 200 in both points per game and opponent points per game. When a team isn't scoring and gives up a ton of points, it's not going to win games. That's why the Owls have gone 1-7 in conference play thus far.
Temple will have its hands full with this extremely fast-paced and electric Tulane backcourt. The Green Wave can score at will, and it may require the Owls to ramp up their pace.
Comfortable or not, it's what Temple will have to do in this matchup.
Tulane has to be one of the best 3-6 teams in any conference. The Green Wave are an electric bunch and always extremely fun to watch.
They rank 14th in points per game and 22nd in pace. You could imagine how their games go — a ton of back-and-forth and high-scoring contests.
Tulane is coming off a loss at SMU in which it entered as a near double-digit underdog. There was never a point when it was out of the game, but ultimately, it still fell short.
Given the nature of the Green Wave's opponent on Sunday, this is a great bounce-back spot against a clearly inferior opponent. Look for Tulane to set the pace and get Temple out of its comfort zone.
Temple vs. Tulane
Betting Pick & Prediction
It's no surprise that Tulane is favored here. Their record isn't flashy, but the Green Wave can run with almost anyone in the country.
When you have elite guard play and a player in Kevin Cross who can take over a game, the ceiling is massive. Look for the Wave to run early and often.
Being the pace-setter is the formula for Tulane, and it will have no problem playing that role against a Temple team with so many flaws.
Lay the number here. Tulane could go on multiple 10-0 runs in this one to set itself apart.
