ACC play continues as Virginia hosts the Virginia Tech Hokies in a rivalry game that both teams desperately need. Virginia has lost four of its last six and Virginia Tech has lost three of its past four.

Virginia has been a completely different team at home vs. on the road and is likely excited to return home for this matchup. The Cavaliers are 0-4 in their true road games, but are a perfect 9-0 at home.

On the other side, Virginia Tech is seeking its first victory in an away game this season. Virginia Tech was without Hunter Cattoor, a massive offensive piece, in its home loss to Miami and his status is up in the air for Wednesday night's game.

Virginia Tech Hokies

The Hokies are balanced, but aren't particularly great on either end. They rank 67th in offensive efficiency and 61st defensively. They're also comfortable playing slow and rank 211th in offensive tempo.

They aren’t great shooters, but are good enough. They make 35% of their outside shots as a team and are 11th in the country in free-throw shooting.

Cattoor’s status hangs over this team as he is the only player in the rotation to make more than 40% of his 3-point attempts. Understandably, Virginia Tech's offense struggled mightily without Cattoor in its most recent game against Miami.

Virginia Cavaliers

As always with Virginia, it starts with the defense. The Cavaliers rely on getting stops and slowing the game to a halt. They aren't as elite as some previous Tony Bennett defenses, but are still damn good, ranking 18th in the country in defensive efficiency.

On offense, the Cavaliers are patient and take care of the basketball. They rank fifth nationally in avoiding turnovers and play at the 360th-fastest pace. What they lack in individual shot creation, they make up for with solid outside shooting as they shoot 36% from 3.

However, Virginia's offense can go completely cold for 40 minutes. In four of its five losses, Virginia scored 54 points or less. The Cavaliers don't have the star power to take over a game if the offense is struggling, which is always the fear when backing Virginia to win and cover.

Betting Pick & Prediction

The home vs. away splits are just too much to overcome here. Virginia has been stellar at home and Virginia Tech has been awful on the road. Cattoor’s status jeopardizes Virginia Tech in a big way, so take the Cavaliers to cover.

Pick: Virginia -3
