Wyoming faces Colorado State on Saturday, March 2 at 4 p.m. ET on Mountain West Network. Here's Wyoming vs Colorado State odds and a pick.
Colorado State and Wyoming will match up Saturday in Fort Collins, with both teams coming off very dramatic losses which should have them geared up for this contest.
The Rams and Cowboys played an instant classic Jan. 27 in Laramie. Wyoming got the better of the visiting Rams as it erased a second-half deficit to win by 3 in overtime.
That matchup saw Colorado State superstar guard Isaiah Stevens go for 17 points. That was above his season average and the Rams still fell short, but Laramie is always a tough place to play, so I won't fault the visiting Rams too much for losing as 8.5-point favorites.
Wyoming narrowly missed out on upsetting the visiting UNLV Rebels the other night as it fell just short in overtime. The Cowboys do their best work at home and take pride in every game at Arena-Auditorium. Sadly for them, this time around they will head to Fort Collins, which has been a death trap for opposing teams. To make the potential damage even worse, Colorado State will be looking for revenge.
Wyoming may have a slight offensive edge against Colorado State. Not that the Cowboys have an elite offense, but the Rams' defense is so lacking. Colorado State ranks outside the top 100 in defending the 2-point shot, defending the 3 and effective field goal percentage allowed, according to Vincerix. If Wyoming wants to pull out another upset, it will need to get the offense running and capitalize on Colorado State's deficiencies.
Colorado State is extremely hungry to get a win. Once sitting atop the Mountain West, the Rams have lost three straight games and are in desperate need of a bounce-back. On Tuesday, they lost on a half-court buzzer beater to Nevada, which had to have felt like a gut punch after rallying all game to keep it close.
As mentioned above, Colorado State has a very poor defense. But on the other end of the court, the offense is downright elite. The Rams rank 18th in the nation in effective field goal percentage and 10th in the nation in 2-point percentage, according to Vincerix. They will be able to get the rim at will against this Wyoming defense and should be doing it early and often.
Wyoming vs Colorado State
Betting Pick & Prediction
These two teams have similar play styles, but the home team has the upper hand here.
Colorado State's offense will be in another gear Saturday afternoon. It also did a very good job scoring in the first meeting between these two, but the Wyoming offense posted a banner day. I expect the opposite to happen this time around.
Colorado State will have enough in the tank to get the win and cover. Look for Stevens to get to the rim off the dribble all game long and give the Wyoming defense too much too handle.
