The Michigan State Spartans and Purdue Boilermakers will clash in East Lansing on Tuesday night to renew an old-school Big Ten rivalry.

This matchup dates back to Feb. 16, 1999, and the Spartans lead the all-time series, 25-23.

However, Purdue has had Sparty's number of late, winning nine of the last 10 matchups. Michigan State's last win in this series came on Feb. 26, 2022.

Quickslip

Purdue enters this contest with a record of 19-7 and a ranking of 13th in the nation.

Boilermakers head coach Matt Painter has built one of the best programs in college basketball over the past few seasons. Painter led his team to the National Championship last season, where they lost to Dan Hurley and the UConn Huskies.

Purdue will compete for a national title once again this season.

However, Wisconsin toppled Purdue by 10 in West Lafayette on Saturday. The loss pushed the Boilers' conference record to 11-4, ranking third in the Big Ten. Purdue will attempt to snap a modest two-game losing streak tonight.

The Boilermakers have been solid on the road this season, with a record of 5-3. Sellesburg, Indiana, native Trey Kaufman-Renn leads the team with 19.4 points per game and 6.3 rebounds. Junior Braden Smith has enjoyed a strong season as well with 16.0 points per game and a team-leading 8.8 assists. Smith ranks second in college basketball in assists per game.

Fletcher Loyer has added 13.9 points per game and 1.5 assists.

On the other side, Michigan State comes into the matchup with a record of 20-5. The Spartans have been one of the more surprising teams in college basketball this season. MSU began the season unranked but has climbed to 14th in the rankings.

Tom Izzo's team was ranked as high as seventh in the nation earlier in the month, but Sparty has struggled in February, posting a record of 2-3.

Izzo and the Spartans haven't missed the Big Dance since 1997. Few programs in college basketball have been more consistent than Sparty.

Michigan State is coming off an impressive road win over Illinois on Saturday night. The Spartans' 11-3 Big Ten record is the second-best in the conference, as they trail Michigan by one game for the top spot.

Senior Jaden Akins leads the team with 13.2 points per game, while freshman Jase Richardson has been solid in his first year with 10.3 points and 1.8 assists per game.

Minnesota native Tre Holloman has added 8.5 points and 3.9 assists.

With the matchup set, let's dive into my college basketball parlay and NCAAB picks for Michigan State vs. Purdue on Tuesday, Feb. 18.

Spread: Purdue +3.5

I love the value we're getting on the underdog tonight after back-to-back losses. Our Action PRO report has this spread at 1.3 in favor of Sparty, giving us a decisive edge on Purdue tonight.

Purdue Player Prop: Trey Kaufman-Renn Under 20.5 Points

We've been red-hot in the college props market lately and will ride with another under tonight.

Izzo will have a strong game plan tonight to show Kaufman-Renn double teams and take the basketball out of his hands. Michigan State ranks 48th in points allowed per game and matches up well with the Purdue big man.

Purdue Player Prop: Braden Smith Over 17.5 Points

Smith is coming off a poor scoring performance with six points on Saturday.

Smith scored fewer than 10 points in a game four times this season, but he has scored at least 17 points all four times in the following game.

The junior is in a strong position to clear this number tonight.
