The North Carolina Tar Heels and the Duke Blue Devils will clash on Saturday night to renew one of the best rivalries in sports.

The two universities are separated by just 10 miles down US Highway 15-501. This historic matchup dates back to Jan. 24, 1920, when the Tar Heels won that matchup, 36-25. Tonight will be the 262nd head-to-head matchup. North Carolina leads the all-time series, 145-117.

These two programs have been two of the best in college basketball history. UNC ranks third in all-time wins, with the Blue Devils following closely behind at fourth. The two programs have combined for 11 National Championships.

Last season, North Carolina swept the season series — but the tides could turn tonight against the second-ranked Blue Devils.

The Heels come into this contest with a record of 13-9, which is a bit disappointing after entering the year ranked ninth in the nation.

North Carolina missed the tournament in 2023 for the first time since 2010. The Heels would need to heat up quickly to make a postseason push this time around.

Hubert Davis' team has posted a record of 1-5 against the top 25 teams this season with the lone ranked win coming over UCLA on Dec. 18.

North Carolina will attempt to recover from a 73-65 loss to the Pitt Panthers on Tuesday night.

Freshman standout Ian Jackson has been one of the best young players in college basketball this season, averaging 14.7 points per game with 3.5 rebounds. Senior RJ Davis leads the team with 17.6 points per game, while Seth Trimble has added 12.3 points and 5.4 rebounds per game.

Duke, meanwhile, rolls into this game with a record of 18-2 and a ranking of second in the nation.

There are few teams with more talent in college basketball than Duke. It began the season ranked seventh in the nation, and with a win today, it will have an opportunity to jump Auburn for the top ranking in college hoops.

In fact, the Blue Devils defeated Auburn, 84-78, on Dec. 4, handing the Tigers their only loss of the campaign.

Jon Scheyer's team is 2-2 against ranked teams and a perfect 16-0 against unranked teams. Duke has also gone a perfect 12-0 at Cameron Indoor this season.

Future first-overall pick Cooper Flagg leads the Blue Devils with 19.9 points, 8.0 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game. Flagg, the frontrunner for National Player of the Year honors, is one of the best freshmen in college basketball over the past decade.

Freshman Kon Knueppel has also enjoyed a strong season, averaging 13.1 points and 2.6 assists, while Tyrese Proctor has put up 10.4 points and 2.2 assists per game.

With the matchup set, let's dive into my college basketball same-game parlay for Duke vs. North Carolina on Saturday, Feb. 1.
