My DePaul vs UConn College Basketball Betting Preview
This is an interesting game to handicap for two reasons.
First, Liam McNeeley could finally return for UConn in this game. Head coach Dan Hurley told reporters that he’s “not sure” if McNeeley will be back on Wednesday, and it depends fully on how the freshman responds to participating more in practice.
McNeeley hasn’t played since the calendar turned to 2025, but he’s the Huskies' best shot creator and gives the offense a different dimension.
Second, UConn is coming off a disappointing loss against Xavier, but it also has a grueling three-game set coming up against Marquette, St. John’s and Creighton. That could very well decide how things play out in the Big East over the next month, so this is definitely a look-ahead spot.
Ultimately, this handicap comes down to the fact that I don’t trust DePaul on the road. The Blue Demons have played seven true road games this season and are 1-6 in those matchups.
Chris Holtmann’s team is losing those games by an average of 25 points per outing (!), with the lone single-digit loss coming against another Big East bottom-feeder in Seton Hall.
In fact, the Blue Demons’ only road win came against a Georgetown team that was missing Thomas Sorber and Jayden Epps, arguably the Hoyas’ two best players.
Finally, DePaul is fourth-worst in Haslametrics’ away-from-home metric.
Even without McNeeley (or a less-than-100-percent McNeeley), the Huskies are still way more talented than DePaul and likely want to go into their key three-game set with some momentum.
