Florida vs Georgia College Basketball Betting Preview
No. 2 Florida is peaking at the right time and in prime position to snag a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament. The Gators have gone 9-1 in their last 10 games and sit in second place in the SEC behind only No. 1 Auburn.
Florida blasted Georgia, 89-59, exactly a month ago. The Bulldogs' lone lead was 3-0, as the Gators overpowered them with five players scoring in double figures.
While it won't be as lopsided this time in Athens, the well-balanced Gators will still handle the Bulldogs with ease. Georgia finds itself on a four-game losing streak and has gone 2-9 in its last 11 games. The Bulldogs are also 2-11 in Quad 1 games.
That's bad news against Florida's dynamic, free-flowing offense. The Gators rank 12th nationally in points per game at 83.6.
Florida is also stingy on the defense end of the floor, ranking third in the SEC in points per game allowed with 66.3. The Gators limit opponents to 38.9% shooting, second to only Tennessee in the conference.
Guards Walter Clayton Jr., Alijah Martin and Will Richard are tenacious two-way players who will give Georgia fits on both ends of the floor.
Meanwhile, Georgia's offense is stagnant. The Bulldogs rank 13th in the SEC in points per game (74.8) and 3-point percentage (32.4%).
Florida will need to once again slow down superb freshman big man Asa Newell. The 6-foot-11 phenom is already Georgia's most reliable offensive weapon, and he's a capable defender as well.
Sophomore guard Silas Demary Jr. (16-plus points in last four games) is another point of emphasis for Florida's defense.
Georgia's defense is solid. The Bulldogs rank fifth in the SEC in points per game allowed at 68.7. The defense has kept Georgia competitive in the second half of games recently, but a lack of offense is doing it in.
This is a rivalry game, so expect the Bulldogs to bring some bite early on. However, Florida is too locked in right now with March Madness around the corner.
The Gators will take care of business and cover the spread.
