Georgetown vs Villanova College Basketball Betting Preview

I've been very adamant all season about Georgetown still being a step down from the top tier in the Big East, despite the improvements in year two of the Ed Cooley era.

However, the Hoyas' past four games aren't an indication of a lost season. Georgetown lost to the three top teams in the Big East — Marquette, UConn and St. John's, with two being on the road — and its defeat at home against DePaul was without two of its best players in Thomas Sorber and Jayden Epps.

If Sorber and Epps are in the lineup, this spread is a bargain — down to five. Even if one of the two are in the lineup, this spread still holds some value, even on the road.

But we'll have to wait for the injury report to truly make this handicap.

Sorber is Georgetown's leading scorer and is averaging nearly a double-double (8.6 rebounds) per game. Meanwhile, Epps has improved greatly as a defender and can create offense as the team's fourth-leading scorer.

Villanova has played much better since its ugly start to the season thanks to its top four of Eric Dixon, Wooga Poplar, Jhamir Brickus and Jordan Longino. The Wildcats earned quality wins over Cincinnati (when it was ranked) and UConn, and need all the wins they can get if they want any shot at an NCAA Tournament berth.

But Cooley has a significant coaching edge over Kyle Neptune. If Cooley has his players (or one of the two), I expect Georgetown to keep this game close (I'd take the Hoyas down to 5).

If Georgetown doesn't have both players, I'd probably pass on this game — or sprinkle a bit on the Hoyas just for the coaching edge.
