My Houston Christian vs Texas A&M College Basketball Betting Preview
There are three things working against the Aggies in this spot.
- This is a 2 p.m. ET game. The students are on holiday break and a Friday afternoon matchup screams sleepy spot.
- Texas A&M is coming off a monster win over Purdue this past weekend.
- This is a lot of points.
Regardless, I can’t fade the Aggies right now. Texas A&M looks like a legitimate Final Four contender with depth, length, toughness on the glass and a strong defense (sixth in adjusted defensive efficiency on KenPom).
Most importantly, A&M is undefeated when at full strength.
Zhuric Phelps, the Aggies’ second-leading scorer, missed their road loss to UCF, a game in which Texas A&M still should have won if not for a blown lead. Against Oregon, second-leading rebounder Solomon Washington only played five minutes.
Texas A&M is the 13th-best rebounding team in the country, grabbing 42.3 boards per game. Meanwhile, Houston Christian is 339th in the country in rebounding.
So, this is a disaster matchup for the Huskies, and even when the Aggies turn to their bench in a blowout, their level of play on the glass won’t fall off due to their depth and Buzz Williams’ style of play.
Houston Christian is 346th in KenPom and just needed a Herculean 32-point effort from Julian Mackey to defeat the No. 335 UL Monroe Warhawks on the road. The Huskies have lost to Texas by 31 and Creighton by 35 already this season, and I expect the Aggies to win by a similar amount.
