Marquette vs Creighton College Basketball Betting Preview
This is a revenge spot for Creighton, as Marquette beat the Bluejays by eight in Milwaukee earlier this season.
If you look at what happened in that game, Creighton couldn't buy a shot. The Jays shot 22% from 3 (7-of-31), and Steven Ashworth, the team's second-leading scorer, was 1-of-13 by himself.
Ultimately, Creighton could've won that game because it wasn't like it was overwhelmed by the Golden Eagles. They didn't turn the ball over much against the Marquette perimeter defense (12 total), and Ashworth had 10 assists to one turnover.
I think the Bluejays can solve this defense again, especially at home.
Creighton been very good (eight straight wins), particularly in its building in the Big East play. At 10-2 in league play entering this game, I think it's a legitimate contender to win the conference.
I do understand that Marquette — which is currently on a two-game skid — is going to rebound at some point, but the reality is that it's struggled against the Big East's top tier.
I think maybe we misjudged Marquette, as it's a bit one-dimensional. Kam Jones hasn't gotten out of his slump yet, and I don't know that it's coming because Shaka Smart has asked him to do so much. It's just a tough, tough workload for him every single night.
And ultimately, I expect Ryan Kalkbrenner to get the best of Ben Gold, similar to the first matchup. This should be a statement performance one-on-one down low.
Kalk had 35 points and 12 rebounds in his last game, and if you add Ben Gold's last three games together, he has two points and seven rebounds in 73 minutes. He's unplayable right now, but he can't come off the floor for Marquette because of the lack of depth behind him.
I like Creighton big at home, as I think it's a good number and spot.
