Maryland vs Ohio State College Basketball Betting Preview

No. 18 Maryland rolls into its road matchup at Ohio State riding a four-game winning streak, and it could be due for a letdown in this spot.

The Terrapins most recently defeated visiting Wisconsin 76-68. It was a balanced offensive attack for Maryland, as all five starters scored in double digits (guards Rodney Rice and Ja'Kobi Gillespie each finished with 16 points).

Maryland is 6-1 in its last seven games, with the lone defeat coming at Northwestern in overtime on Jan. 16.

Center Derik Queen leads the Terrapins with 15 points per game, along with 8.3 rebounds and one block. Gillespie is averaging 14.6 points, plus team-highs in assists (4.7) and steals (1.9).

Maryland's offense is proficient. The Terrapins rank 19th in points (83 PPG), 32nd in field goal percentage (48.4) and 44th in 3-point percentage (37.2) nationally.

Maryland is also defensively sound, ranking 35th in points allowed (65.5).

On the flip side, Ohio State surrendered an 11-point lead in its most recent contest, a 87-79 loss at Illinois. Forward Devin Royal scored 19 of his game high 29 points in the first half for the Buckeyes.

The loss snapped a three-game winning streak that Ohio State accumulated with victories at Purdue, vs. Iowa and at Penn State.

Guard Bruce Thornton is Ohio State's top scorer with 17.1 points per game. The 6-foot-2 junior is shooting a blistering 45.9% from the 3-point line and 51.3% overall.

Royal is averaging 14.6 points and a team-high 7.4 rebounds.

Ohio State's offense ranks 30th nationally in 3-point percentage (37.9). The Buckeyes are fourth in field goal percentage (48.4) and seventh in points (80.0) in the Big Ten.

Defensively, Ohio State leads the Big Ten and is 12th nationally in 3-point percentage (28.9). Ohio State is fourth in the Big Ten in field goal percentage defense (40.7) However, the Buckeyes are 12th in the conference in points allowed (71.4).

Maryland and Ohio State have split the last 10 matchups.

Maryland routed Ohio State 83-59 in this season's first meeting on Dec. 4, 2024, leading by as many as 40. The Terrapins held the Buckeyes to 4-for-19 shooting from the 3-point line.

Revenge is in order this time around, and that's why I'm targeting the Buckeyes on the spread.
